Whats German potato salad???

I think German Potato Salad tastes just like regular potato salad, it's just made with red bliss potatos with the skin left on.

I had the German Potato salad with my turkey sandwich at the Plaza Restaurant in MK on our last trip, I can't remember what was in it, I don't think it was warm though. I believe it was like regular potato salad with some minor difference...hmmm no help here, I just can't remember!!! Wonder if it has anything to do with the parade starting as I was eating? :rotfl:

German potato salad is supposed to be served warm but it isn't always. It usually has potatoes (of course), onions, bacon and then a dressing with vinegar, oil, sugar, salt, pepper and sometimes, but not always, a seasoning such as dill weed. I make it a lot. I don't care for mustard or mayo so I won't eat regular potatoe salads. I love this one....with lots of bacon! MMMM!

Thanks guys! I was looking at the menu for the Plaza and they had it ,sounds great now I'm def. goning to order it !! :thumbsup2

I love potato salad, and was excited to get to have an original German potato salad at a German restaurant.

The vinegar was too much for my taste. I did like all the other ingredients though. I was in shock. I wanted to enjoy it more than I did. It is something that I would try again, but just a few bites because it is a little too strong for me.

I think its an acquired taste thing. I'm sure if you haven't ever had the traditional American potato salad it would be quite pleasant.

German potato salad varies as much as American does. My family comes from Germany/Austria--some make it warm, others cool, some very sour (vinegary), others add sugar, some add boiled eggs... Typically, German potato salad includes: sliced boiled potatoes, onions, fried bacon (with some of the bacon grease stirred in--not terribly heart-healthy!) vinegar, oil, salt and pepper. Of course, my mom's is the best! :lovestruc

Here goes it :sunny:
