My parents are both 75 years old and have everything they need. I'm tired of getting restaurant gift certificates for them, but I don't know what else to do. Basically, my mom is pretty easy to shop for . . . candles, etc, but my dad UGH! You can't purchase clothing items for them because they'll sit in one of their dressers with the tags on them . . .they have already stated they do not want any presents any more, no birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc . . .I cannot just not buy them anything . . .

So what do you buy your parents for Christmas? :confused3

my parents are 73, they also have everything .so I go with LL Bean's flannal Jammies!! they love to get them. and every other year I add slippers from there. this is something they do not buy for themselves...they wait to get from me! I also added this year the backscratchers from there. they are the best I have ever seen!

We are buying my parents a laptop for Christmas this year. The travel from one home in Wisconsin to another in Arizona. It will be much easier for them to have and keep in contact with all of us. They are going to flip.

My dad's easy. Get him a few shirts or some baseball caps, or anything having to do with antique cars or trucks and he's pleased as punch.

My mom's impossible. She likes to say she's easy to shop for, but that's so not true. She criticizes thoughtful gift choices and I've seen her lay my dad flat too many times for me to really want to try very hard. Last year, she nearly died with a heart infection and since she was out of the hospital by Christmas, I bought her a really nice dry/wet heating pad, a back massager, and something else. She has yet to use them and still uses her ratty old heating pad. No clue what I'll get her this year.

My parents are also hard to shop for. They don't need or want anything -- both around 70. We were at Disney with them this past September, and we took lots of pictures and will be giving them an album of the trip. We also got two great pictures from Buzz Lightyear ride -- grandpa and grandson, and grandma and granddaughter.

We are getting my mom 6 house cleanings. She doesn't need "things" at this point. And we will also take her out to dinner.

For my parents I am giving them breakfast with us at Cinderella's Royal Table when we go in March. My dad is also getting whiskey that DH is bringing home from Scotland. He's getting my mom some English something or other as well.

His parents are getting tickets to see Garrison Keillor from us.

For his grandparents, we are getting them XM radio. Then, on every other gift giving occasion, they will get gift certificates for more service. I'll never have to worry about them again. ;)

My grandmother, I think I am going to make a photo book from Imagestation. I made one for my mother for her birthday containing photos from our Disneyland trip. It turned out really nice.

What about giving the gift certificates in a unique package? I like to get that stuff you shrink with the hair dryer and make gift baskets. They come out really nice.

My parents don't really need anything either, and they live in a small house so "collectible" stuff is out...

Mom loves candles, so she gets a few Yankee candles.

Dad loves movies so he gets some gift certificates to Hollywood Video or Blockbuster.

I also will get a basket and fill it with sugar-free candies and cookies (they are both diabetic). I've also sent them stuff from Harry and David (fruit) and Omaha steaks.

Im taking my mom to Disney!! She absolutely loves the Polynesian, and we havent stayed their in years, so that is what shes getting. My dad is getting a new leatherman and golf shoes.

I'm giving them money. They are building a house and really want money to help with the cost the plantation shutters they picked out.

My parents are getting crystal--they love it, and they rarely buy it for themselves

Last year, for Christmas my sister and I got my mom carpeting. She really needed it but didn't want to spend the money.

For her birthday, I always get her the refillable popcorn bucket and gift certificates from the local movie theatre. She loves this gift and goes to the movies with her cousin a lot.

Gifts I've given her in the past--I took her to see Tony Bennett (her very favorite) and I bought her a cruise the Christmas after my dad passed away. She'd always wanted to go on one and I knew it was a Christmas that she really didn't want to be at home. My younger sister went with her.

Well in my case its not my parents since they are no longer with us but my in laws. UGH They buy whatever they want so its hard for us. We usually give my FIL some imported beer (he loves beer) or a gift cert to a nice restaurant. My mil we used to give collectable Santa's but that is probably over now. She has a lot and is running out of room for them. Last year I made her a scrapbook of our June vacation in Disney. Not sure what I will giver her this year.

My family doesn't spend much - about $20 - 30 maximum each person. My Dad is getting a book "1000 places to see before you Die" and Mom is getting some earmuffs from LLBean.

We gave my mom and dad tickets to go see the play "Jersey Boys".
We gave my IL's a gc for continental to offset the cost their airfare to Las Vegas in March.

my brother and i got a car to pick my parents (and me ! ) up from the airport when we go to disney next week so they didnt have to wait for the bus..and we get to stop at a grocery store...i also got them each a few little things--candles for mom, shirts for dad

My Moms 83, so I'll get her hair GC's for a couple of visits at her beauty salon, and a gas card worth a year of gas at a local station that pumps it for her! She still drives locally and gas is very expensive for her.

The In-Laws are gettting a GC to Sears, they need new fridge, microwave, stove and dishwasher so that's what they'll get.

The only other person we buy for is our son (he's easy) and some business people. Just a small basket for other members of the family, under $20 of something they like.

I get them restaurant gift certs for their favorite lunch places. I get them a Mom & Dad ornament. I usually pick up a couple of "cute" things. I get them some chocolate. I get them Lotto tickets. I have gotten magazine subscriptions in the past.

Mostly I pray for a major appliance to break 2 weeks before Christmas so DH & I & my DB & DSIL can buy them a new one!!!!!!!! ;)
