What's Disney's definition of a "large tripod"?

Over on the Rumors and News board, a thread was started with a link to newly updated park rules (which go into effect TODAY).

A couple key changes were made regarding unaccompanied minors and e-cigarettes. But in reading through the complete set of rules, I spotted this in the list of Prohibited Items: large tripods

Is this new, or are they referring to something larger than the tripods we on this board are accustomed to taking into the parks? This would be a huge blow if we were restricted to gorillapods and tabletop tripods.

Anybody know if this is new, or a previously existing rule that I don't need to worry about?

Very interesting. I'm hoping they are trying to prevent any professional film making from happening without permission. But I'd still like to know for sure.

I have come across this a lot in the past of what tripods you can bring in the parks. I'm interested to hear more about this and it could ruin my times when I bring a tripod in the parks. But I'll find out next month when I bring my tripod in the parks.

Here is the Disneyland Permitted Items page and it says "Folding tripod stands or monopod stands that can fit inside a standard backpack are permitted". I have carried a lot of different kinds of tripods in/on my backpack or another bag. There were times when security had to check with their supervisors if it is okay to let me bring my tripod in since they consider it to be too big. Now I use a MeFoto Roadtrip attached to the back of my backpack and the CM's have no problem with it.

The "Roadtrip" is was I`m planning on carrying as well. It`ll be on the back of a Flipside 300. I hope I don`t have any problems.

I've had one too many people walk blindly into my tripods in crowded situations... I don't use them as much any more. I need a second person to stand next to the tripod or use a table pod on a chair. Gorilla pod on a wheelchair/stroller would be another option.

I was just there for the last week in August and didn't have any issues. It mostly comes out for fireworks and night time long exposures. I used it during the Villain Unleashed and Frozen fireworks show. Never got hassled or any looks from cast members.

My tripod fully extends to 67 inches (1.7 meters), plus another 4.5 inches for the head. Though, it folds down to fit into a Magic Kingdom locker. (Manfrotto 055CXPRO4)

We will be back for the first week in December. I still plan to bring it and a smaller tripod too (MeFoto Backpacker).

How about banning strollers and those freaking "my *** is too big to walk" motorized scooters. I hope they say something about my "big tripod". It takes up less real estate than either of those two annoying damn things.

If you're really concerned, you could go the Disney Photopass route and figure out a way to mount puddle lights on the tripod. Of course, you're even more likely to be mistaken for a Photopass photographer - I suspect it's happened to all of us.

I'm bringing my normal, pretty large tripod next trip, as I have since 2007, and expect to get the same amount of hassle from Disney as I always have - zero. Since we don't need a stroller to leave it in all day, I'll probably only take it out for solo night outings, but I'll have my Gorillapod all the time, which should work well in many circumstances.

Actually, when setting up for fireworks or anything remotely in a crowd - I do light up my tripod legs. I take my head light and point it down under the legs. I also get a few of these: http://www.amazon.com/Laser-Finger-...&qid=1412788338&sr=8-2&keywords=finger+lights

I mount them to the top and bottom of each leg so people can see them. Since I started doing this... not even a single close call with someone walking into it.
