This isn't trip related, but it's an update!
You may recall from way back when I was introducing the cast of this trip report that I work at an animal shelter. A hazard of this job is when the occasional really pathetic looking animal comes in and needs to be fostered. We have a lot of people that volunteer to foster (usually litter of kittens that are too young for adoption), but sometimes there's an animal that just seems so bad off that I take it home because I don't want to subject a volunteer to the sadness of the animal not making it.
About a month ago, some folks brought in a kitten they had found. She was extremely underweight and suffering from a bad upper respiratory infection. But even being so sick, she was very friendly and spunky. So I brought her home (along with some antibiotics) to give her a chance. She had a HUGE appetite and quickly put on weight.
Here's what she looked like just a few days after coming home with me:
and a close up:
One of our cats, Bluebell, loved the baby and took good care of her!
She was sick, but responding really well to the medication and food. Except for one eye which now kinda resembled the Terminator when half his face got blown off. Gross.
But her spirits were great and she was looking healthier and healthier. Except for that eye.. it was getting really swollen and nothing helped. Finally the vet decided that it wasn't going to get better, and the only thing to do was remove it. She couldn't see out of it at this point anyway, and had to be in pain.
We jokingly called her Coraline (have you seen that movie? So creepy but really good!) because of her stitch eye. She recovered phenomenally from surgery and feels great now!
With that introduction, I'd like to introduce the newest member of our family... Blanche!
We decided to keep her! I made it official yesterday. She fits in great with the other pets and has the sweetest personality! She's actually snuggled right up with me as I type. Now I know we are nuts and this is the ABSOLUTE limit of pets.
