What's better than a honeymoon? TWO Honeymoons! 8/30 57 hours/13 months to go!

Very cool, all inclusives are the best aren't they :teeth:

Be prepared to be there for a while, when we did our tour we were there for a looooooong time, but it was lots of fun. If you manage to get an appointment with Nick Cotton say Hi from me and Dave  He was really nice, friendly and so helpful.

The mini bar was included- nothing in those pictures cost extra and they would restock anything we ran out of. I know there are levels of rooms at Sandals that cost less and don't have alcohol in the mini bar.

We didn't have butler service or concierge (but we were in a concierge level room-our travel agent was able to save us some $$ b/c you don't actually have to book concierge to be in one of those rooms) and our fridge was stocked with beer/soda/juice/water and we had a mini bar with more hard alcohol as well. We were "upgraded" upon getting to the resort, however. I think Sandals does that a lot if they have open rooms available that are a step or two higher than what you paid for.

It's funny how when you're staying at an all inclusive, you forget how much you paid and everything feels free!

Do you remember about how long your DVC tour was? Just want to be prepared for what we're getting into!

It makes sense that they would upgrade guests if they can, because the better time you have, the more likely you'll recommend them to friends and stuff.
Do you think they are more likely to upgrade returning guests? I know we booked one category of room and by the time we traveled, we had moved up a few levels without paying extra

I think you are nearly guaranteed to get upgraded if you are a returning guest with Sandals. Unless the resort is completely booked which I doubt it ever does get that full. Oh & just sayin'...I love reading about your Sandals honeymoon! :)

Sandals Royal Caribbean (I always spell that with two 'r's and spell check has to fix it. When will I learn?) has a private offshore island as part of the resort. Ben and I headed over there on our first full day, and we had a great time! We went back for a little while on our last day, too.
The only way to get to the island is on a boat, but the ride is only about 3 minutes long and they come get you as soon as they see you standing in the dock waiting.

The island isn't huge- it has a pool with swim up bar, a beach area and a lunch buffet.

There's a clothing optional beach on the back side of the island. It seems to get quite a bit of use, and we heard that there is good snorkeling over there. Despite that, we opted not to visit. But it looked nice and secluded.

There is also a Thai restaurant that is open for dinner.
IMG_0491.jpg

They have a set menu, and we really enjoyed our meal there. We did hear people complaining about the food being spicy, but since: 1)it was Thai food and 2)we were in Jamaica, I would've been disappointed if it wasn't spicy!
Another couple took this picture for us after dinner at Royal Thai.
IMG_0488.jpg

This picture reminded me of something- a lot of the restaurants had dress codes that required men to wear pants and ladies to not wear flip-flops. Ben and I took this seriously which is why he is sweating his butt off in long pants on an 80+ degree night in Jamaica. I bought shoes at the resort gift shop because all I brought were flip-flops. Luckily, they were on sale and they are really cute shoes so I'm ok with the purchase:)
IMG_0497.jpg

We quickly realized that this policy is not strictly enforced. Men could wear nice shorts, and no one minded if I had flip flops on. We still dressed nicely for dinner, but we could be a bit more comfortable. Almost none of the restaurants have AC because they are all open to the outside. It was very pretty, but very hot and buggy.

I would say minimum 2hrs. Transportation pick you up and then whiz you off to SSR where you are dropped off and Welcomed Home. They you are led to a waiting area where you can help yourself to refreshments such as coffee, juice etc and muffins as well. They a CM comes out and takes you away to chat about DVC. Overall I would say you would be there for around 3hrs with intro and checking out the model rooms, then maybe a further hour if you decide to sign up. Hope that helps :)

That private island sounds lovely and those flip flops are cute :goodvibes

subscribing... so jealous of all your travels... I can't wait until my husband and I can travel as much as you guys... only 17 years till the kids move out lol!

3 hours is a good chunk of time, for sure. I still have to figure out when the best time for us to do it is. But that is a challenge I am ready to take on!

Don't be jealous of our travels- I saw your PTR and you have some stinking cute kids.
Plus you have a good 17 years to figure out where you really want to go!

You are given time slots to choose from I think, but when we booked there was only one time available for us in the morning. So get in there quick if you know the day you want to go :goodvibes

Oooh, a private island! How nice! And I love all of the rose petal pics - they were everywhere! How romantic :cloud9:

And yay for a DVC tour! :woohoo: I too would love to know more about it (mainly the cost), but never really want to take the time to do the tour. I'm excited to see what you learn!

idk... i find couples who have the "wierd' quality to be more cute... i guess its the chemistry... i tend to be "wierd" so i would take it as an awesome compliment :)

cant wait to hear more!!

Haha, thanks! At least we're not often bored!

My next update should help show what Ben is really like...

Something that Ben and I enjoyed at Sandals was participating in the activities. There are a group of staff called 'Playmakers' who try to get guests involved in what's going on. They actually reminded me quite a bit of camp counselors. In fact, Sandals as a whole is kind of like a really cool camp for adults (except you don't have to bunk with other people or share bathrooms... I think that is more what you find over at Hedonism resorts :rotfl:) but now I'm getting distracted and rambling again...
There are daytime activities like pool volleyball and basketball tournaments which looked like a lot of fun. Ben and I didn't really do much of these because we took excursions on a couple of days (they deserve their own update, I think) so we weren't always around for them. The nighttime activities were also a great time- and we got involved with those in a big way!
There was always an evening show and sometimes the show was kinda crappy, to be honest. But there were a few doosies! Jamaican Elvis sang to us on one particular night and he was a really good impersonator! Ben was picked to be one of his bodyguards...
034_34.jpg

This was the best pic I could get of him as he walked out to the stage.

Later that night was karaoke. The room was packed, but no one was singing except for the staff. Ben is not even the smallest bit shy (complete opposite of me), so he signed up for a song and ended up singing a bunch. I think one other guy sang a few, but otherwise it was just a bunch of people watching.

IMG_0533.jpg

After one of his songs, Zoey the Playmaker asked Ben if he'd be in the talent show the next night. When he told her he didn't have a talent (while he is not shy and has no fear of crowds, his voice is not a talent) she suggested he lip synch to something. Ok... but what? It turns out they had a pretty limited selection of songs with words (lots of karaoke music, but you can't lip synch without words!). Plenty of Bob Marley, but not much else. But once Ben told them he would sing 'anything', it was quickly decided that Madonna was the way to go. And since we were at a resort, Ben chose to sing "Holiday". Before plans were firmed up, one of the entertainment staff asked if Ben did drag. His answer? "No, but I will."

What followed was a highlight of the trip, if not of our lives so far. Ben worked the crowd and gave a great performance. It looked like this

1005_5.jpg

That's my man. And he's sober doing that. Don't be jealous.
You can sorta see his back up dancers behind him. Those were two drunk guys recruited at the last minute. They were also hilarious!

To thank him for his super participation willingness, Zoey made him a T-shirt and gave it to us right before we left to come home. She was so sweet and had an amazing voice!
IMG_0646.jpg

It did seem like the crowd at the resort with us was more of a spectator group than a participator group. I think the level of entertainment fun depends on who else is there that week. It's a lot more fun if you get involved and get to know the staff.

Too bad the other people at the resort weren't as into participating as you guys were, but good for you for making the most out of it and having fun and getting to know the staff!! What a great memento that t-shirt is!

I can't take too much credit- I didn't sing any karaoke or dance around lip synching in a crazy costume. But Ben sure did participate!

omg that shirt could fit both of you at the same time!!

I know, it is ginormo. I think she needed an XXL to get everything written on there that she wanted.

OMG You should totally get this picture framed  Ben really did go for it didn't he, must have been so much fun and its great that places like that try and bring people together to have lots of fun :goodvibes

That t shirt is v cool and a lovely memorable gift :goodvibes
