What's a good realty place to use for vacation rentals in North Carolina?

We've always gone to Ocean City and we are getting outside of our comfort zone a little bit here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We don't even know exactly what area to search for. Looking for a northern part of NC or Southern Virginia and definitely want a beach front place that is not a party all night type of place. Ideas?

We are used to using Coldwell Banker for OC places and I'm not sure what's reputable for other vaations areas.

We stayed in NC a couple years ago on the Outer Banks - used Cove Realty. Makes me want to go back.

we've stayed in the outer banks a few times now. we LOVE it! quiet, no partying going on... very relaxing.

we've used Twiddy and CarolinaDesigns. Both companies were good to deal with. We've gone in June, August, and this last time October. If you can get the time off, off-season is about 1/3 or 1/4 the price of summer (you are dealing w/ hurricane season though). We just got the insurance and didn't worry about it.

We hope to go every year (we go w/ extended family).

depends on where you wanna stay. I just bought a place in hertford but vacation at emerald isle.. I use emerald isle realty.. very friendly for rentals..stink if looking for realtors!!

I've used Twiddy and Outer Banks Blue. Both rentals were wonderful, with one being one block from the beach in Corolla.

Corolla is very beachy....there's not much else to do in terms of nightlife and restaurants. There's tons to do during the day, not so much at night.

Kill Devil Hills is a little more lively but I prefer the quiet upscale neighborhoods of Corolla or Duck.

I'm also looking for rental vacation properties. I would like to surprise my bf with a nice beach getaway for valentines day. I would like to rent a house for the weekend if not on the beach as close as possible. I looked at the companies mentioned and they book by the week. Can anyone let me know of a company that books by the night?

For the Northern Outer Banks ( Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head) we have used Joe Lamb Jr and Kitty Dunes rentals for many many years now.

Have used Southern Shores for rentals three times in the past - very nice residential area to choose from. Prices very reasonable too.
