What's a good Haiti charity for babies or children?

I am putting together a baby gift for a mother that has everything she needs but is also very charity/mission minded. I thought it would be nice to make a donation in the baby's name as part of the gift. When I google Haiti charities, I get tons & tons of sources but some may not be reputable.

Any suggestions? A faith-based charity would be awesome.

Compassion International is a wonderful faith-based charity. Through child sponsorships, they help children via meals, vaccinations, education, and faith-based ministry. Of course they do this year-round, not just after disasters.

They have a special donation section for one-time donations for Haiti relief. Since they already have a network established there, they are able to provide more immediate relief than some other organizations. Catholic Charities has a special find going for Haiti too. And they did work there b4 the quake. They are an awesome organization and will put your money to good use.

I consider myself fortunate in that my parish already has an ongoing twinship with a school and orphanage down there. So when the quake hit we simply gave through the parish. No need to worry about who/what was a scam.

You're very smart to be thinking about this. a lot of ppl don't and give to first person who comes along.

One way to check any charitable organization is to go to Charity Navigator at http://www.charitynavigator.org. It independently evaluates thousands of the charities. It's not faith-based, but Save the Children does amazing work around the world.

Samaritan's Purse- they also do Operation Christmas Child. If you go to their website they have things you can donate directly to like milk for babies, school for children, meals for kids,shoes . Look under ways to help and then click on gift catalog. They can send you a brochure about this too.
