What's a good bread for finger sandwiches?

We're going to just snack for New Years Eve, and I want to make some chicken salad s/w's and some with cream cheese and olive spread. If I'm ambitious I may do a shrimp salad s/w too.

I know finger sandwich bread needs to be dense enough for a mayo based filling, but thin enough to be dainty.

Any suggestions? TIA!

I use Pepperidge Farm thin sliced white bread. Perfect for finger sandwiches. Thinly sliced, but the bread itself is dense. Your sandwich plan sound delicious!

Look in your supermarket's Deli/Appetizing section. I know my store has the cocktail breads there, they are the perfect size and density for finger sandwiches, and the Appy Manager uses them when making finger sandwich platters for customer orders.

Thank you! I thought I had remembered America's Test Kitchen recommending Pepperidge Farm, but I wasn't certain.

Thanks! I'm so tired of big heavy meals and I still have crudites and olives/pickles, etc. left!

Thanks DisneyNutMary! That's a good suggstion.

Use Pepperidge Farm. Be sure to cut off the crusts, lightly coat inside of bread with soft butter if using a "loose" filling (i.e., some chicken salads) as it'll keep the bread from getting soggy. Also, you can make the finger sandwiches ahead of time--keep them covered with a damp (not WET) paper towel and plastic wrap to keep fresh and stash them in the fridge.:goodvibes

You can also vary how you cut the sandwiches (long sticks, squares, triangles) That really makes the sandwiches look more polished.
