What's a fair price for a shampoo, color and cut at a middle of the road hair salon?

I know it's hard to compare salon to salon but I was a little shell shocked at my end price. I usual pay around 150.00 which includes a tip but this last trip my bill was 225.00. Though , I got a partial highlight vs a color. I got a shampoo, highlight, gloss and trim.

My mom has been a cosmetologist for 30-40yrs, has her own salon (just her, no other employees) and the last time I paid attention to her prices, I think a cut & color is $90 or less. I think highlights are about the same. I can't imagine paying $225 for my hair!! Reality is that I can't imagine paying anything...lol :rotfl:

I pay $60

Ditto.
In fact even for my small town I don't think the salon I use charges enough and I always tip a high amount because she does such a good job and is so cheap. I would pay 100 I think but not much more. Then again, I live in a tiny town. I know if I were to go to any of the larger cities near here it would be way higher.

In my area (north of Boston), I find this varies a ton..,,but my tolerance I about 150... I tried a we salon a time and gad a cut, single color, and Blow dry and it as 170$... If I ad highlights it would have been another 50.... I am not going back there again!

Today I am trying another salon - it will be 100$ for my oiudad cut and 50$ for the color...

I pay around $70 for a partial highlight and cut. Color would be a tad cheaper. It seems to be the norm around my area. The higher end salons probably charge more and supercuts would be less.

Where I go, it is around $160.00 with a tip. I like how she does it so I am willing to pay this. No way would I just walk into a place that is cheaper, just because it is cheaper. Hair takes a while to grow back. Now if there is someone that I know that goes to a cheaper salon I would try it, but I have to have a recommendation first. Then again, I have awful hair, and it doesn't take much to totally screw it up.

I suddenly feel blessed for living in a location in which the cost is $56 at my salon. (And even more blessed to have a sister-in-law who is a stylist and owes me $$...which means I can have the color done for free right now....)

About 80-100 bucks here, depending on what type of coloring you get.

$150 including tip. I have a short style so I have to go every 4-5 weeks - ugh ugh ugh. No way could I see paying a dime more than $150, or I'd have to let my hair grow out into another style so I could go longer in between appts!
