What would you like to see on the Camping Board?

Sounds like something a camping trip could cure!

One thought, Keep the current month TR as a sticky. Yay or nay?

Other ideas?:listen:

Yes, put the current month TR up at the top.

Also, speaking for me personally, I don't use the Abbreviation thread and don't know how much action it gets. Does it need to be pinned still? Don't want to clutter the top of the Forum with lots of pinned topics but wondered about that one.

The Fort FAQ - Work in progress thread is probably one of best threads here as far as information and quick links to threads posting pics of sites, animals, recipes, etc. Problem is, it just doesn't stand out enough. People have no idea about it.

I have had posters who have been regulars on here for more than a year tell me they never knew it was there when I referenced it. One possibility is maybe take it and pull the picture link threads out of it and give them their own sticky. Like "Pictures at the Fort". Under this it can be laid out like the current Fort Faq thread, but start it off with a link titled "How to post pictures on the Disboards" then maybe the Post a picture of your campsite, Animal sightings at the Fort, Kick'n it at the Fort (sad part is that the thread "Post Pics from Trail's End Porch" was already there and nobody knew it), Picture of the Day, etc.

Maybe use another thread for Fort Information, like an updated picture of the rental prices for the lake and canoes, fishing, bikes, etc. Some of the older threads under it might could be let go and started afresh, or condensed like the golf cart rules, segway tours, hurricane season, drive or take the bus.

It's just a suggestion and would be glad to help but would love to hear from others on this one too. Just seems a shame that a thread that can answer 70% of the questions on here is so lost.

It was suggested some time back that making the Truck and Towing thread a sticky. At the time it didn't stand out so much but has grown and given a good platform for some towing information. Maybe give it a home there too.

Just gotta find a way to make it stand out more, not sure what options are available to help with this.

Denise,

Thanks for asking! Definitely the current month TR and possibly the prior month. Especially if it is the first week or 2 of the month. A lot of people may still be at the Fort and posting to the last month's (arrival month) TR link or doing an update after they get home. Maybe keep last month a sticky until around the 15th of the next month.

And the Truck and Towing thread. I like that one. :teeth: And maybe the "Shoes on the Rail" thread. I can't remember what it's called and can't find it until someone else posts on it... :D

All good ideas! I know the FAQ thread needs updating. Keep the thoughts coming. I'll work on some things this weekend.

Also a pet peeve of mine is the "ghost post" from years ago that gets a reply and pops up top. Denise, do you know if there is the ability to "auto-lock" threads older than a certain date from the most recent post? Conditions may have changed and posters have different opinions.

If a thread goes years without activity, I wish someone would start a new thread on that same topic. If not, we'd only have about 6 threads on the Camping Board. 1) golf cart rentals, 2) trailer rentals, 3) what's the best loop, 4) trip report, 5) can-i-tow-my-5er-with-a-Prius, and 6) movies, Christmas/Halloween, special events. :rotfl2: (at least that's my six). Maybe I will have to bump it to seven to squeeze in "making rope drop from the Fort".

One of the (few) things I like about TripAdvisor is it does auto-lock threads with a gap in posting activity.

Just a suggestion. Since you asked and all. :confused3

:duck:Tow my 5er with a Prius. :duck:

It wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't true.

But wait....what if I want to comment about the latest plans to make River Country the official Fort Wilderness pool from page 700-something???

Jimmy, start a new thread about it. A lot of people on here will think it was your "Big Idea" and you get all the glory. You can go way back to page 734 and repost some of those things and folks will think you're a genius.

How did you know I own several DVD box sets of Warner Brothers cartoon? Coyote, Roadrunner, Daffy, Porky, Bugs, and Yosemite Sam own me.

I had a geeky buddy in my engineering department years ago who proposed going through decades-old issues of Popular Science and resubmitting old pie-in-the-sky ideas as new ideas with a modern flair. Oh, that was life on the edge.....

Own same DVD set. Bought it under excuse it was for the girls but it was actually for me.

I don't know of an auto lock option. It wouldn't be a good option for some threads like the Fort pic of the day thread. I think some threads coming back are ok like the other campsites one. We might otherwise miss out on some CG information.

I'm always ready to hear ideas!

I like the idea of the Current TR being sticky. I think after a week into a new month, last months TR can be "Un-Sticky". If people are still posting in it, it will still be at/near the top of the list.
I think larger and broader topics such as the Truck/Towing thread could be deserving of their own sub-forum (under the "Camping at Disney World").

I think an FAQ page should be more a "link" to a page that has the FAQ's and not a thread. It can be updated by admins/moderators but really don't need to be added to by peoples questions or comments. Much cleaner that way. Of course that requires an admin/mod who is up on the topics.

Thread can be "auto-locked" if using the appropriate version/mods on the Xenforo software (which is what they are using here). Details for that at https://xenforo.com/community/resources/auto-lock.3433/

I decide to scrap the FAQ and start over since the information was 9 years old and some of it outdated.
