What would you do?

I've come across a dilemma. This isn't a complaint about the race director/race rules - I'm fully aware of why they have to do certain things. But it is going to make things tougher for me. Here's the situation:

I'll be in Minnesota in late Oct. for a work function. Found a 1/2 marathon that will be going on while I'm there. Since I have no idea if/when I'll get back to Minnesota, I planned on signing up for the event. Checked the website a few weeks ago and saw there was a 3 1/2 time limit. I can do that.
Went back to the site last night to register and there was a note that the time limit has changed. It is now a 3 hr. time limit for the 1/2 (a 13:44 min. pace). My best time EVER in a half was 3:10.
Now, I'd like to tell myself to suck it up and go a little faster to make the time limit. But the other issue is that I'm coming off an injury and JUST started running again. I haven't run a lick in the past 6 weeks.

I'm thinking I'll register and just go out and give it my best shot and hope for the best. But I'll be really bummed if I don't make it in official time to knock it off my 50 states list.

Any suggestions?

Terri

That is so disappointing that the time limit changed. I would probably go ahead and register anyway and then try to get in some quality training over the next two to three weeks. I know you can't "cram" for this the way you would for a test, but knowing me, that's what I would end up doing. (Not to say it's the "smart" thing to do, but it's what I would do. :rolleyes1)

Financially, it's a good investment in your 50-state quest since you won't have to buy airfare or book a hotel room for this race, so you're only gambling with your race entry fee (and your injury, so be careful!).

Good luck with this decision!

I am wondering.....what happens to all the people who may have signed up thinking they had 3-1/2 hrs and now find they have only 3?

Good point, Maura! Maybe it is an error on the website? I would call and ask. You can't be the only person in this boat. Good luck! :goodvibes

Ouch! I feel your pain!!

I'm doing a 10K on Sunday and hoping for the best... In this case they have nothing on the website about a minimum pace - but then sent out an email saying we have to clear 4.1 miles within the first hour. It shouldn't be a problem (assuming my hip stops twinging), but still...if there's a minimum pace expectet, post it!

But yeah...I'd give them a call and check because surely there were people who signed up thinking they'd have 3.5 hours!

Thanks. I sent an e-mail. Haven't heard back yet.

But I did go on-line and register. As ksoehrlein said, it's still more cost effective to give it a shot. This trip is paid for thru work, so if I make it that'll be great and I don't have to worry about paying to get back to try again.

To me it's a no brainer. I'd do it. Glad to see you pulled the trigger and signed up. I have yet to see a race that actually stopped timing at the actual cut off. You will be fine.

Thanks Scott!

I have one month to get ready. Boy, am I in trouble. :scared1: Went out today to do the run prescribed by my PT. I had to do 6-8 sets of run 1 min./walk 30 sec.
After the 2nd run interval, I could feel it in my hammie. I finished all 8 intervals, came home , stretched it out and then rolled it with The Stick. Eight hours later and I can still feel it. Yikes! This ain't gonna be easy.
