What would you do?

I would have called too and I'm glad the OP did. The bus driver was reckless.

Report it. If he was driving like that without kids on the bus, he is probably driving recklessly with kids on the bus, not to mention he put others on the road in danger. I would also like to add, it might not have been a "driver" it could have very well been a mechanic test driving a bus after reparairing it, or even a sports coach returning a bus to the bus garage. In any case... report it.

Glad you called. I wouldn't want to find out if he drives like that with kids on board...it only takes one time...

I would have called the police when I saw it and reported it to them. That does not sound like someone I would want my children riding with. If they will put their own life at risk, they very well may do that when there are children on the bus.

At the least, I would call the bus company and speak to the superintendent.

Me too. I agree.

The bus was well into the no-passing zone before starting to pass. The only reason the bus was able to complete the pass safely is because the on-coming traffic saw it and slowed down long enough for it to do so.

Thank you all for your responses. I did not expect for them to all be in agreement, but I did want to know that I wasn't the only one thinking this was a situation that required some action on my part. I did call the bus company and reported what I saw. The lady I talked to was very nice. I told her that I was not trying to cause trouble, but felt that it was an unsafe situation. She told me that they rely on the public to let them know how their drivers are driving. Their first priority is the safety of the children they transport.

Right or wrong, I feel better. I agree with the poster who said that ultimately, the driver is responsible for his actions.

I am glad that you did. I was thinking about what you wrote in your original post about jobs being hard to come by, etc. and then I read a few posts later about the driver being responsible if he lost his job and that was spot on.

As a parent of a child that rides a bus to school and worries everyday about something happening, I thank you.

You bet your hiney I'd call. The driver is reckless, broke the law and endangered the lives of others just to save a few seconds. Passing in a no passing zone while driving a freaking SCHOOL BUS???? What if the oncoming driver had been a little less attentive....say a cell phone chatter? Or an inexperienced 16 y.o. driver who spooks easily? You might have witnessed a head on collision instead of a close call.

Here's what I'd ask myself....Would I want my child on a bus with that driver at the wheel? Would I want to be a driver when that person is at the wheel of a school bus at the same time? And here's the kicker......If I was the owner of the bus company, would I want someone to call me and give me a heads up that I have a Rambo driver at the wheel of one of my busses? Someone who might tend to get in a wreck for no good reason and cost me a fortune in settlement fees? Maybe even cost me my business?

Yes, I'd make the call.

I think we are sharing a brain! All those things went through my head too! LOL!

Really? Shouldn't you drive as safely as possible every time that you are driving no matter who is in the car? I'm not trying to be snarky, I really think that you should rethink that policy. Everyone should drive safely each and every time that they are behind the wheel-to not do that can have devastating consequences to your family and other families.

I don't drive like a maniac but I am more cautious when I have DD or other children in the car.

I see that the OP called.

I wouldn't have. I have called the How is my driving numbers listed on work trucks to report crazy drivers and they didn't seem to care. Shoot, I've called the police when others have been recklessly driving and again, they didn't seem to care.

I swear I have become apathetic. I don't think anyone will do anything about anything anymore.

I don't understand the point of "there were no kids on the bus" - there could have been kids in the on-comming traffic cars!! Come on, this was a bus, but a Mini - could have killed many people - if someone can't do their job right, they shouldn't have a job.

In my opinion - you are 100% right.

You're wrong on every point.

Children on the bus or not, driving unsafe is a hazard to every other driver on the road, in this instance everyone on that road at that time.

Impeding traffic???? Please. They were driving down the road at a speed they apparently thought was safe (except for the crazy bus driver). Unless you're on the freeway, there are no minimum speed limits.

Any time you find yourself on the wrong side of the double yellow, you're in the wrong. Please accept your ticket with a smile. You showed bad judgement by attempting the pass....

I agree-and those that say they drive safer if kids are in their car-shame on you! Drive safely 100% of the time!!!!!:sad2:

Call immediately. These are just regular people who pass a relatively simple driving test. Anyone whose job is being responsible to the public (children) in any way shape or form answers to a higher standard.
