OK I"m not sure if this belongs here but it is resort related...

What would you do if you arrived at your resort to check in and you're told that they need to walk you to another resort because the one you chose was overbooked. Now keep in mind that you made your reservation 5 months ago and the pool at the resort they are walking you to is being refurbished.

In return for this inconvenience they will refund you one night of your stay.

Would you stand your ground? Woudl you just move to the other resort?

Thanks for your input.

Depends on many factors for me.

One is what hotel are they moving me to? If I booked the AKL and they moved me to WL or Poly (something I felt was similar) I may move. Or if they offered me a more up-scale room, that could influence me.

I spend a lot of hours deciding on the right hotel so I may not move if I am not happy with the offer. I also find myself turned off by the bait and switch...book here and you really get to stay somewhere else.

It would also depend on how the other members of my family felt about moving. If it was going to upset my son, I would dig my heels in and stay put.

Good luck

Well, I guess it would depend on which resort and room they were switching me to. If they were moving me from a deluxe to a mod or value, I'd have a big problem with that and would stand firm. If they were upgrading me from value/mod to deluxe, I'd most likely do the happy dance! :cool1:  The pool refurb. probably wouldn't matter much to me, but we don't tend to spend much, if any, time at the resort pools.

If they overbooked, then I would certainly want an upgrade. If I was staying at a value-at least to a mod. A mod to a deluxe, or at least another mod. Maybe from WL to poly or BW? Wak? I would think they could at least find a cart or a car to take you. I would never walk. It was their mistake to begin with.

It depnds. Going from one of the All-Stars to another All-Star is no big deal. Depending on room location - the food court/main pool at the other AllStar might even be closer than the one for your own resort. Certainly if they included an upgrade to a priority location it would be a pretty good trade.
The same would probably be true between POR and POFQ.

I'd totally take the trade if it was a GF/Poly swap - but again room location would matter - and I am assuming they would let you use the pool at the original resort.

If you are talking about a switch at another resort - it would be hard to 'walk' to the other resort. ;) (BWK/BCYC woudn't be too bad) If the swap was between POR/POFQ and CSR or CBR or another distant combination in the same resort category, I might try to keep my original resort. But even there - even if the MAIN pool is in rehab - the quiet pools are still open.

In all cases, I KNOW they will offer to transfer your luggage between resorts.

I have spent so much time picking the perfect resort for my kiddies for our upcoming August "surprise" vacation over my boys birthdays. We are staying in the MK view of the CR...if I got there and they said they were overbooked and they needed to move me..the only place I would accept would be the Grand Floridian in a concierge room with a MK view... plus one night refunded....I wouldn't take it laying down...I would have a fit! :scared:

So I see your online now...Did you stay, and if you transferred where did you go?

I would ask that a room be found in the resort I booked at or that I be moved to a resort acceptable to me that did not have the pool being rehabbed.

I see you were supposed to be at POR. If they tried to move my family to POFQ, I wouldn't have accepted it because of the pool situation.

I am assuming, based on your signature and the pool rehad at POFQ, that you had booked at POR and ended up staying at POFQ? I'm also assuming that since you said you had to walk from the original to the new resort. If those assumptions are right and they put you in POFQ when you had booked POR than I say getting comped one night is fair since they are similiar resorts. I think I would have been fine with that but they would have had to provide some transportation to the other check-in desk because that is a nice hike with luggage and kids in tow. And the pool thing wouldn't be a big deal to us and especially not at POR or POFQ because since they are 'sister' resorts POR guests can/do use the POFQ pool and there are a lot of quiet pools.

Now if I am booked at one 'tier' of resorts and they want to put me in a less expensive 'tier' they had better be doing something other than just comping one night and refunding me the cost difference. And I still wouldn't be walking. ;)

Not the OP, but I believe "walking you" is the industry term which means they are transfering your reservation to another hotel. They aren't actually making the clients walk to the new hotel.

From what I heard, they will move you to a place of equal or better value. And if you move from POR to POFQ and they don't have a pool, then thats not an EQUAL move. So I would of asked to be moved to another Mod or a Deluxe.

Thanks everyone for your response.

Yes I had my reservation at POR and was told I needed to be moved to PORFQ. However, I stood my ground and refused to move pretty much. We were really excited about staying at POR and the pool was a big factor with our niece as well. I didn't spend all this time choosing a resort to then be told to move - if I had wanted to stay at FQ then I would have probably booked it.

I also didn't like the way it was presented to me - I wasn't asked if I could move, I was told that I had to move. And the reason? Well the cheerleaders needed to stay together and all the rooms were given to them. Of course I didn't get my room at POR without a guilt trip from the manager who after telling me that I had no other choice said "well I guess we'll just have to relocate another family"...she said it in a way that was meant to make you feel guilty about not wanting to move.

It was just a sour start to our trip.

I've never been moved at check in, but back in 2003 I got a call about a week before we were set to leave that they were shutting down POFQ for extensive refurbishments and we were going to need to be moved to another moderate resort - our choice.

I was traveling with my parents and they didn't like the size of POR when they had stayed there before, and that really ruled out CBR as well. I called Disney back and nicely told them that I was dissappointed, and that if we had known POFQ was going to be closed we would have booked elsewhere or gone to Universal for this trip. I was put on hold for a few minutes, and when the CM came back she told us she could put us at a deluxe resort with a standard view for a rate that was tless than what we were due to pay for our moderate room. She suggested AKL which was brand new at the time, so we went with that. At check in they upgraded us to Savannah view so it ended up being the best deal we ever got at Disney.

If it was to happen again, I'd ask for an upgrade right away. I think they won't offer it, if you don't ask. They are changing your reservation, they should work to satisfy you. Especially when it's due to over-booking.

I think if they made the mistake then they should have given you an option. Either a choice of another mod or since it is Disney and they want you to have the most magical experience, they should have offered you a deluxe stay like the POLY. They should not have tried to make you feel like you had to take a room at the FQ. Maybe, for whatever reason you do not like that theming. At least a choice should have been given and it really should have been an upgrade. Make you feel special. Not like just take this instead and be happy. That's not right with all the $$$ we spend on these vacations. I would have been upset too. It's too late now but you really should have refused a stay at FQ if you didn't like it and asked what your other choices were. And so be it, if they had to move another family, oh well. This is the ressie you made. It was up to Disney to make things right, not you.;)

Thanks everyone. I asked for an upgrade but was told that every single resort in Disney was completely booked and sold out (except of course FQ). I really felt it was Disney's fault and not mine that all of this was happening (and it didn't help that we were starving to death and this was taking forever)

I would demand a better hotel with an open pool. My brother did this last year...they over booked at his hotel and after much to do, he ended up at the POLY!!!! He was nice, but firm! So he did not get refunded a night, but it was a huge upgrade from his hotel without paying the higher price!:goodvibes

This has only happened to us once in 40 trips along time ago but is occurred before we left home. We had reservations at the Contemporary Resort, north garden wing, back in the ? and got a call from disney 2 weeks before arrival and was asked if we would like to try the Grand Floridan, choice view for the same money. We thought about about it, gave them a call and said, sure, why not, wouldn't pay the rack rate they were charging anyway. Well, we spent our 9 nights there but the WL just opened that year and we visited it, more to our liking. We did not like the spread of the GF, pool either and the surrounding were beautiful but alittle too la-de-da for us, Too much decor and white. Glad we did, don't have to guess what it would be like but fell in love with the WL, been staying there ever since.

I hate it when people do that. Why should you be made to feel guilty about their mistake? That kind of behavior by management is unacceptable. Apparently they felt no guilt in doing this to you. Bravo for standing your ground :thumbsup2 .

Well, I don't think it is too late to write a complaint to Disney guest services. I find it inexcusable for a manager to make you feel that way for standing your ground, after it was Disney that screwed up. Yep, they should have upgraded you and been very nice about it. I hope you had a nice time despite Disney trying to de-magic it for you.
