For the summer of 2008, I can do an internship at a hospital system here in Cleveland. It's through The Cleveland Clinic. I know other places have them too so maybe you have heard of it before. Well, the internship is a 9 week program. It's like you are actually a doctor/nurse/etc.. You get paid and everything. I want to be a doctor so my parents want me to take up on the offer and take the internship, but the problem is that I wont be able to do marching band. You all know how much I love band. Marching band is all summer and so is the internship. The internship starts on June 9 and goes through Augest 8. Since the internship is an intense one, it doesn't allow any other extra activites. It is 40 hours a week, and from 8am to 5 pm. Marching band is going on at the exact same time. The internship ends 8 days before band camp. I made field commander/drum major for marching band so I am the person conducting, along with 2 other people. I am going to try and talk to the band director at my school to see if she will still let me be in marching band but not pick up on it until the week before band camp. What I am having trouble with is if what is she says I can't do both. I am scared that she is going to tell me if I do the internship, and miss 2 full months of marching band, I wont be able to do it.

If you where in my situation, what would you do and why? I am really confused about it all and have been in tears for most of the day because of it.

PLEASE HELP!

im goona agree with hilary on this one. The internship is an amazing offer.

Marching band is all summer? Ours, years ago, was just a few weeks before school started. With Band Camp at the school being a full week when we learned the field show.

I'd say go for the internship. Discuss this with your band director and see if he/she would be willing to work with you in the evening or on the weekend to get you up to speed on conducting the music for the season.

Good luck.

(PS not sure how I'm managing to find all the Teen posts. I just hit the "new posts" button when I log on)

What are you wanting out of this internship? Is band more important to you than this opportunity? Would there be conseqences of NOT doing band?

I couldn't tell ya hun, but good luck with the decision.

I would have to agree with everyone and say internship.
Then again, I'm not in your situation. Ulitamately, you have to do what feels right to you.
