Our plans have changed so much these past couple weeks I am about to go crazy..

We were going to stay at the Poly in GVC. We decided that the price was a little to high for us right now. :( Anyway, we downgraded to Wilderness Lodge Woodsview.

I have 2 very small children. My mother and sister are traveling with us so we will need 2 rooms. We have the visa 7 for 4 deal. Our original plan was to drive down to save on cost. However we are now thinking about flying. BUT to fly we will have to downgrade to a moderate. On the postive side if we decide to fly we will get to stay 2 extra nights.

Here are my questions.

Would you drive (Ohio) with an infant and 2.5 year old for 18-20 hours? to stay in a deluxe? 7 nights?

Or

Would you fly STRAIGHT through, rent a van and stay in a moderate (POR or POFQ) for 9 nights?

Both are about the same costs, give or take 100 or 200...

FLY - it's an issue of time and convenience.

You can stay LONGER, and NOT have to drive? For my family it would be no contest. If it were me, the drive would take so much out of me and the kids and DH, we wouldn't enjoy ourselves from the exhaustion, and then...having to think the whole time about driving BACK! Tht would definitely NOT be my choice.

Having said that, I have never stayed at WL, and only at one mod (CBR). Though I wasn't madly in love with CBR, I thought it was fine, and I think I'd love to stay at POR or FQ from what I've read on this board. How much better can WL be that it's worth all that time?

Let us know what you decide, and have a GREAT time! :sunny:

I know, the more I read my own questions the more I realize there really isn't anything to think about....

What I really want is to FLY, stay at Poly GVC for 9 nights!! Maybe someday!:smooth:

I agree with Iloveeeyore - fly and spend more time in WDW. The trip by car/van would be a long one, especially with two little ones. Save yourself some trouble by booking those airline tickets. On a future trip, you can always stay in the Deluxe Resort; Disney has no plans to get rid of any of them anytime soon. ;)

My family has stayed in all of the Moderate Resorts now. We love 'em all. Here are a few of my Moderate Resort photo albums (I'm sorry I don't have any of my CSR photos on-line):

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

Fly...Fly...Fly!! And stay for 2 more nights!!

Definitely fly; POR and POFQ are both great choices. IMO it would not be worth it to spend all that time driving just to stay at WL.

If you do decide to drive the drive from Ohio is long but not hard. I've done it many many times.

However if you have the money to fly then fly! You get tow extra nights and to me that is worth downgrading resorts.

the moderates are vey nice and the food courts are much bigger than WL and the pools are nice too. the POR has a fun playground and fishing in the mornings. plus you can take a boat ride to DTD.

the WL is nice, but dont be too upset. once you see the moderates you will realize flying was worth it. they are very nice as well.

the POFQ has a really cool dragon slide and the boats, too.
plus you can swim at POR , they are sister resorts.

I would fly this time and try to drive when the kids are much older.

Any chance you could do the Deluxe for 2 nights and the Mod for 7? Maybe get the best of both worlds, longer stay and a little Deluxe time too. We are switching three times in our 12 days, Offsite, Value, and Deluxe....

Another vote for flying! Your children are so young it won't matter to them what resort you're at - but they sure will get tired of all that driving!! The only WDW resorts I've stayed at so far are the All-Stars and POR - and I thought POR was really beautiful and had a great pool. While WL is beautiful as well, I just don't think it will make that much difference if you stay at a moderate instead of there as far as your enjoyment goes. If you were trying to decide between a monorail resort or an Epcot resort and a moderate it would be a tougher choice. But from what I've read the rooms aren't that much larger and except for the boat that takes you to MK the transportation is busses just like the moderates!

If you're willing to drive to Pittsburgh, flying out of Pittsburgh airport is sometimes cheaper than flying out of CAK. AirTran has some really good deals out of Pitts.

I personally like driving. We always break up the drive by staying one night in South Carolina, and I can bring my own pillows, the kids games, lots more stuff too.

However, with the ages of your kids, I'd go with flying.

Actually I don't mind the drive at all. We drove down last year when our oldest was 18months. It was fine on the way down but the drive home was hard. Now that we have another child who is much younger (6 month at the time) we have decided to fly.

HaleyB-We thought about that but we are on the 7 for 4 plan and we really want to use up all days on our UPH. That would mean we would have to stay at the Deluxe the first night and last night of our vacation and doesn't seem feesable with 2 youngins.... Plus we don't want to pay the cost of a Deluxe when are only there 1/2 days each.

Oogiboogie-We looked into Pittsburgh. The flights were cheaper but not by much. We would have to pay to park our van at the airport and that would take up any cost savings that we would have had. As for CAK I wish we could have found a good flight out of there because I live only 5 mins from the airport...

Good News... We have decided to fly and we found straight through flights with PERFECT times... Not a bad price 220.00 a piece.

Only negatives about flying-I am scared to death of flying.. I will fly when I have too but I really dread EVERY second on the plane. Nothing feels better to me than when that plane touches ground... Another negative... packing up all this baby stuff to take on a plane.... 2 strollers, 1 carseat and 1 infant carrier....OH BOY....

Thanks for all the advice. I am really looking forward to staying POFQ....
