This week, DDs' school is on Spring Break, but childcare is available, so my girls have been hanging with their friends and playing all day. They love it!
DD5 is good friends with one of the girls in her class, and the mom and I get along pretty well too. One day last week, the mom asked if she could take DD5 to the movies with her daughter one day this week. I had no problem with that since the girls had done many play dates at either house. Yesterday was the day (they went to see Ella Enchanted). So yesterday, in DD5's snack kit, I put an envelope with $10 for the movie and snacks, and told DD to give it to the mom.
I get home yesterday, and not only did the mom not take the $ (kinda expected that, but I sent it anyway!), she took the girls shopping (her daughter needed new clothes due to a growth spurt), and bought an outfit for my DD as well. Now the girls have matching "twin" outfits (apparently, the girls we mistaken for twins, much to their delight, throughout the shopping/movie adventure).
I have already talked to the mom on the phone and said thank you, and knowing my DD, she did say thanks while they were shopping. The mom said it was too funny because the girls are both 5 yet they were shopping and talking like teenagers. What is even funnier is the mom and I are both tomboy types and our DDs are girly girls. Both of us are constantly befuddled and don't always know what to do!! LOL
Anyway to the question, should I have DD write a thank you note also? Also, can anyone think of a nice way to return the gesture without it looking like I am doing it out of guilt/necessity??
Thanks, and sorry so long!
