D did the interview... the gal offered him the job. He wanted to ask me "do I take this or do I wait" (he had a University interview next week). <br>
He decided to take the job. Tammy (the gal he interviewed with) had told him to call Mike (from the temp agency) and let him know. D called Mike seconds after being in the car (we were still IN the parking lot) and left him a msg saying he would like the job. Mike did not call him back. He called again that night as Mike works nights. Mike still did not return his call.
So D called him again yesterday reiterating Tammy said to call and let him know if he wanted the job. Mike STILL did not call him back. So today D calls Shaun (Shaun set up the interview with Mike). Shaun says they filled the position already and hired someone else. :(

What would you do in this situation? I told him to call Tammy today and he refuses b/c 'Shaun is looking into it'.

I had told D to call Tammy as well as Mike (even tho she said to call Mike) if it were me. When he didn't hear back from Mike I told him I would have definitely called Tammy and probably Shaun.
D was doing what he was told but b/c he wasn't pushy enough it looks like he lost out on a position :( We're both really bummed. I am just ready to cry.

D is now mad at me b/c I TOLD him to call Tammy and let HER know... and he didn't. He never does stuff I tell him if "she" didn't tell him to call her. He is always loosing out (I am sorry I am angry he doesn't listen to me). I don't know WHY he thinks I am blowing smoke up his $@% b/c I am not. I have been to job training (on how to get a job). I am not stupid.

I have learned that if you really want something you need to be aggressive & go for it. No one will come chasing after you. I think your DH should have made as many phone calls as it took to as many people as possible to get the information out that he was accepting this position.

Yes, if I were him I would call Tammy to ask what happened. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" as the saying goes.

It may be too late for this opportunity, but he should really be aggressive with future things. When people are aggressive & show that they want the job, this is usually a plus for an employer because they can see what type of person the individual is & that they wiill get the job done no matter what it takes.

I can understand your anger. Take a deep breath to try & calm down before talking to your DH about it again. Good luck.

If I'm understanding the situation correctly, they offered your husbandthe job, he accepted, only to have them hire someone else when some guy at a temp agency didn't call them back?

I would first call all involved -- ALL -- and find out what happened. I would then look into if there is any legal recourse.

I would find out exactly what happened, probally from Tammy. Shaun may not have all the information, or was "off". Perhaps when he told your D that the job was filled that he didn't understand that it was infact filled by your husband!

Dmickey28 - that's the best suggestion I've heard all day. You must be the ultimate optimist!

To the OP - I hope everything works out for you and your DH!

just trying to see if I understand this...d works for a temp agency, and thru them was trying to get hired at a company? that is why he needed to call the temp agency to let them know that they wanted to hire him?

If this is the case, what I assume (and remember, I don't have all the info and this is just my speculation) that something is up and I would definitely call immediately. there are a few scenarios I see:

1) there was an argument or disagreement about the contract between the agency and the employer d wants to work at. if d is under contract, was introduced to the employer thru the agency, the agency will expect a fee from the employer. there is usually a contract in place already, so shouldn't be an issue, but sometimes there is...employer balks at the fee, tries to worm out of it, tries to negotiate, or contract was never signed.

2) there was a harder to place candidate that the agent pushed for instead of d.

3) if this is a temp job, they can't come to an agreement on price. d wants a certain amount, agency will get much more than that, and employer doesn't want to pay that much, went for a cheaper person, or cheaper agency.

I really don't know, but worked as a recruiter for an agency and did temp placing for a while and have seen a lot.

Shaun told D b/c he didn't call back they offered it to someone else...
However D did call back when we were in the parking lot (Shaun was clear it was someone else hired through the agency).
He called again the next morning and again Thursday evening since that is when Mike actually works.
He called Shaun this morning first thing b/c Shaun set up the interviews and had not heard back from Mike. I'd love to know where this Mike is at and why he hasn't returned one phone call.

1. Whoever it was, was hired through this agency (according to Shaun). Not much other then that was said.

2. I can't see how they can offer it to one and give it to another so quickly? And not call the first person back since they had offered it to him.

3. D agreed on set wages. While not "great" they would make ends meet. There was no arguement there.

Shaun is suppose to call him today.

Thank you guys for your in-site and comments. I am trying to calm down. I told my husband when I make suggestions or tell him to do something (like call Tammy) it is for his own good.
This could have probably been avoided in the long run. (Believe me, this isn't the first time ill will has happened b/c I would make a suggestion and he would not be persistant... he is non-aggressive).

I am just in awe over the whole situation.
