I want to make up a "Snow Day" gift basket for DH's aunt and her family (includes a DH and 11yo DD). I ordered the Snow Day DVD and would like to add hot cocoa mix, a bag of marshmallows, and a small package of cookie mix from the baking aisle. I'm on a tight budget and would like to add something else, but I'm not sure what.

What treats, snacks, etc. "keep you warm" on a cold, snowy day?

Also, I want to add a message. I had an idea in my head, but didn't complete the thought and now I forgot what it was. Anyone with a clever little saying, poem or rhyme?

Soup and crackers

Popcorn

add gram crackers and chocolate with marshmellows for smores

Tea bags or Coffee ??

as for a saying or poem...

Here's hoping you stay Warm on those "snowy days"

:confused3

cinnammon sticks
fudge
cookie cutters

Will edit of I think of more.

Myst

They have premade cookie mixes you can add in there. It will give them something to do never mind you have this sorry

Thanks for the ideas/reminders. I did add Jiffy Pop to my list and I think I will get a small bag of coffee.

So now I have:
  • Hershey's or Godiva hot cocoa mix (instead of ordinary cocoa mix)
  • marshmallows - they do have a fireplace and a wood stove so I could probably get the chocolate bars and graham crackers too
  • coffee (maybe Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks or Godiva)
  • Betty Crocker cookie mix pouch
  • Jiffy Pop popcorn
  • Snow Day DVD

Do you think that's enough?
"S'now day like a Snow Day."...it came back to me suddenly.

Look up cookie recipes, especially for those with dry ingredients you can layer in a sealed jar (With or without chocolate chips), tied with a ribbon and the recipe attached.

And, I'd send "Warmest holiday wishes, to stay safely in the arms of our families love, throughout this season and into next year."

Or a sentiment similar to that.

Oooh. Cookie mix in a jar would be so much prettier than a pouch of cookie mix. Thanks for reminding me of them.

I was going to give those a few years ago, thinking they were original. Then before I knew it I was seeing them everywhere. When I saw prepared jars at Walmart I gave up on the idea.

Throw a couple of candy canes in there to stir the hot cocoa with.. yum! Oh, and if you have a Target near you, they had Jiffy Pop Popcorn in their dollar section!

Wal-Mart and Target have nice cozy fleece throws for around $5. There's probably one with a snowflake design on it - nothing like snuggling under a warm blanket to watch a movie on a snowy day!

I like this idea.

A blanket! Boscov's has an assortment of fleece blankets for $2.99 this week. Great idea. I think I've completed my basket.

  • M & M cookie mix in a jar
  • popcorn
  • Godiva sampler hot cocoa mix
  • marshmallows
  • graham crackers
  • Godiva sample decaf coffee
  • fleece blanket
  • Snow Day DVD
Message:
The warmest season's greetings to You!
May you find a bit of warmth and comfort on a cold, snowy day.
Best wishes for a happy holiday season.

Now that is going to be a great basket. :)

Wish my family would think of something like that.

That is the only way I will drink my cocoa now
SO Yummy !!!!!!!!!

and I was gonna add the throw from Wal mart but someone already did
Good Idea :)

Today was one of my two Christmas shopping days (aka, vacation day from work). I accomplished a lot and started getting supplies for the gift "basket".

AC Moore has metal tubs with handles, on sale for $5. I used a 40% off coupon on it. I picked up those rub on transfers with snowmen to apply to the sides ($4.99) and got the mason jar for the cookie mix.

At Boscov's I got the Godiva cocoa mix (4 packs for $5) a 2oz decaf vanilla hazelnut coffee for $3.50 (would have preferred the Special Roast, but they didn't have decaf) and a fleece blanket for $3.

I need to go to the grocery store for the M & M's, popcorn and s'mores stuff and then I'll be ready to pack it in the tub.

I picked up a piece of Snowman/quilt border paper at AC Moore and added this message:

A gift of
Comfort
And Warmth
for a Cold
Winter day

Season's Greetings
For a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year

That sounds like a lovely gift. It's personal, from the heart, and shows you put thought into it. The message is very fitting, too. I think it will be a big hit!

In case you need another suggestion for a different type basket, I like to buy a nice bean soup mix (it's pretty big) at the grocery and then empty that into a pretty decorated jar. I copy the instructions from the soup packet onto a Christmas card, and tie that around the jar with a pretty bow. Many times I find cute soup mugs on sale for $1 or $2 so I keep a few on hand for baskets. Put in a small box of cornbread mix, crackers, or both and it makes for a nice gift basket. :goodvibes

I was just going to say throw. Big Lots had some on sale this week for 4$.
BTW, that gift basket is a very cute idea!

Get a nice fleece throw. (very cheep, I've seen them less than 5 bucks around here)
A pair of warm gloves.
Marshmallows
Hot Chocolate
(Love the dvd idea)
And if you can, get an MP3 of Let it Snow and burn it to cd and stick that in.
I've got a very nice snowy picture with the lyrics on it. (I got the pic from a diser and I did the text to it.) you could print that off and put that in with a personal message on the back. (PM me if you want to see the pic)
Soup mix
Big mugs
Candy Canes

This is a neat gift. I might have to do it for someone this year!

At Holiday time for some of my friends I always give:
"A CUP OF SNOWMAN SOUP". In a large coffee mug I put a hot chocolate packet, some marshmallows, a Hershey kiss, & a candy cane.

I attach this poem on a little snowman:
(Maybe you can modify this poem for your basket):

I was told that you've been really good this year.
Always glad to hear it.

With freezing weather drawing near,
You'll need to warm the spirit.

So here's a little "Snowman Soup"
Complete with a stirring stick,

Add hot water, sip it slow,
It's sure to do the trick!
