Not sure what we should do on that 1st day. I really would like to do something, but I hate to waste a park day on my pass for just those few hours. I also don't want to spend more and go to Disney Quest, because we are already buying Universal tickets. Any thoughts?

We usually go to the pool at the resort and hang out there until dinner time and then head to Downtown Disney for dinner & dessert. We then head back to the resort and do a late night dip. Hope that helps!

Downtown Disney may be a good option for you. Don't know who you are travelling with, but there seems to be lots to do there for kids and adults, and it's not an "admission fee" place. Good restaurants, movie theater, stores, etc.

We head over to a MK resort and watch Wishes from a Resort whenever we arrive later in the day but not too late. Last time, we stood on the beach at the Polynesian. Then we wnet somewhere for dinner - don't remember where.

I would do dinner at Chef Mickeys if you are traveling with kids. You get to interact with the characters without going into a park. You could hang out at your resort before hand or do a monorail tour of the monorail resorts, ending up at the Contemporary for Chef Mickeys. Then back to your resort for a good nights sleep. Nice and fresh in the morning.

Tboss welcome to the Dis:earsboy: I agree with not burning a day on your passes. One fun thing you can do is go to a monorail resort and ride the loop through CR, Poly, and GF. Take a few minutes and get off at each resort, look around, get something to drink, dinner, etc. Don't stay out too late--you'll want to be up early for a park the next morning. DTD is also a good option:earsboy:

As others have said, I think it depends in part on age and gender of those traveling with you. We lcoe to go to 1900 Park Fare for dinner with Cindi and than out to the boat dock to watch the EWP.

Beaches and Cream for dinner and a "kitchen sink" and a stroll on the Boardwalk is another option. (You can see limited fireworks for Epcot and MK from here).

Enjoy

We have this exact senario for our trip next week (:teeth: ). We are staying BWI so we plan to hit the pool (hopefully it will be warm enough) for a few hours with the kids then spend the evening on the BW, either Spoodles or ESPN for dinner. We plan to get a good night's sleep and start fresh Monday morning.

We played mini-golf. If you don't have a vehicle you might have to do some creative Disney bus riding. But it is fun!

Explore the hotel or make a PS at another resort's restaurant. You could always go to the Poly or GF and watch the fireworks from the beach and have dinner.

I would check in, get settled, and go to one of the Deluxe resorts for dinner. Preferably 'Ohana's at the Polynesian and try and catch the evening's fireworks. Or, if I was really tired, I would probably just get dinner at the resort I was at and explore the grounds, maybe take a dip in the pool. If I was totally full of energy and about to bust, I'd go to Downtown Disney.

We arrived at our resort at approx 5.00pm on a Sunday evening.

This is what we tossed around....

Play mini golf at Fantasia
Downtown Disney
Dinner at Trails End Buffeteria and then the Fort Wilderness Campfire and Movie
Hang out at our resort, have a swim and hot tub
Tour another resort that we might stay at next time
Watching wishes (7pm) from the beach at the Polynesion, then dinner then back to the beach for the electric light parade.
Sundaes on the boardwalk and ride the friendship boats

We ended up going to Epcot for dinner, and illuminations - but we have APs so we didnt have to use a day on a hopper.

Rachael Q has a lot of great suggestions. the boardwalk and downtown disney are nice places to walk around, especially if you like shopping.

i'd go to pleasure island and hang out at the adventurers club but that does cost $21 if you don't have a park hopper plus ticket. also wouldn't work if you had kids.

Two suggestions...one is a "mono-rail loop"...getting off at Contemporary, Polynesian and then Grand Floridian...grabbing some food...browsing...maybe a gift shop.
The other suggestion is the Boardwalk. So much to see, do and eat!
Boy, what a nice dilemma to have, huh? Have fun!!

WE are in the same boat this weekend staying at the Dolphin. I plan to take my time checking in and get settled and then hit the boardwalk. We will eat at either the Brewery or ESPN club and maybe watch Illuminations from outside Epcot.

The girls like the games and atmosphere and its a good way to ease into the vacation.

Downtown or the MK. Or possibly the WS at Epcot.

I am arriving at 3 pm at MK on a day when MK closes around 6. I know its a waste of a PH day but I really want to eat dinner at CRT on my first night at Disneyworld.

We would do the exact same as a pp.... Eat dinner at Ohana's and watch the MK fireworks from the Polynesian beach. :)

My vote would be for Chef Mickey's, especially if you are travelling with kids. It's great character interaction and can really put you in the 'Disney mood'.

If you arrive by plane at 5pm, you won't get to your room at least until 7pm anyway, so basically you'll go for dinner, and turn in early so you can wake up early for EE the next day.
