What will happen to 2022 cruises scheduled to dock in Key West?

Personally prefer another sea day. Could easily visit Key West on a WDW or some other trip to Florida.

On a trip that was supposed to stop there. Happy if the port is dropped and the only port on 6 nights is CC.
I am not sure I'd say it's easy to visit Key West on a WDW trip (it's easily [ha!] a 7-hour drive). But if someone wants to get there, it's the way to go.

I would do the drive or I would take the boat from Fort Myer.

Drive wouldn't be that bad and I would then fly out of Miami on the return trip. We had thought about it during our cruise last winter but decided to skip it instead that time.

You point out a 7 hour drive as I supposed negative but I view it as an experience.

You should do that drive at least once. I always enjoy it!

Well, if you want to take a drive, that's one thing. If you want to go to Key West, it's another.

All I was pointing out is that it's not like visiting the Space Center from WDW. It's its own trip. And now it'll have to be, for most cruisers.

I was so surprised how many people chose to disembark a day early and forgo the last day/night in NYC. It was crazy. You paid for that night onboard, why not enjoy it? I stood on deck 10 forever just enjoying the city twinkle in the darkness.
We were on it too and enjoyed the NY night. It must be us, we were on this year's WBPC cruise as Covid was hitting. Ended up missing 3 ports and had 10 straight sea days before over-nighting in San Diego.

Yes exactly! Its not an easy trip We booked Jan 2022 Disney Magic to go to Key West as my husband has never been there. We went to the northern most point in the contiguous USA - in Angle inlet MN and wanted to go to the southernmost point. I was on assignment as a healthcare worker down in Central Florida during the pandemic and we decided to take a weekend to go down to Key West...we knew it would be a long drive, but we were prepared. That weekend they closed the borders to the Keys (virus numbers were very high in Miami area and they didn't want them coming down to the Keys). Then we had to drive back up. We said Never Again will me make the drive (also the love bugs were making a huge mess everywhere) and we said lets book a cruise there instead. Now this. :( We will make it there eventually I am sure!

Personally, Key West seemed like a nice port day, but it is not a place I really want to spend more than 7-8 hours max in. And it definitely doesn’t appeal enough to make that drive.

Also, since the voters there clearly do not want my money, I will oblige them and not bring it to them. I will spend money on other areas of Florida or other port cities that are happy to have tourists and their filthy money. 😉

My one biggest question is what port of any will Disney replace the scheduled stop with. It is a bigger concern for me mainly because I am traveling with my mom who cannot really do tender ports, so someplace like Grand Cayman wouldn’t work for her.

My family went on a Disney cruise a couple years ago and we picked a cruise that stopped at Key West since we had never been there. Liked it enough to seriously think about driving there for our anniversary in a month. We were about to reserve a hotel.

Since the vote on Tuesday, we are now considering going somewhere else. Only the small luxury cruise ships will be allowed to dock. We don't feel that we are the clientele Key West wants to visit their city.

I hate to say it, but there is a possibility this vote won't "stick". Legal challenges are being mounted for the three votes in question (which had 60-80% approvals). I hate it when people vote and then some court decides that isn't what the people want.

Anyway. This whole situation and what happens next year isn't over by any means.

As someone who plans their cruises based on ports more than almost anything else, I know it can be really frustrating with the Key West situation right now.
I was on a WBTA with 4 port stops. 2 of them ended up being canceled mid-sailing due to a hurricane. I stood on the ship and watched a lot of cruise guests berate the crew over and over about how their entire trip was ruined because we had to miss these ports. I chose to look at it a different way. There was nothing I could do to change the hurricane and suddenly go to the ports I had planned on. What I could do was sit back, relax, enjoy an extra sea day and all the super creative and last minute entertainment the crew thought up.
One of the best shows I've ever seen onboard was created within 4 hours and presented solely because there was a hurricane that added a sea day.
Sure it was sad to miss 2 ports, but I was on a Disney Ship, on vacation, and really what better place to be?
I say all that because I think if going to Key West is the only reason you are taking this cruise, you may want to change to a land vacation or add on a land trip pre/post cruise. Ports are never guaranteed. With the changes in the laws, even less so. If you think you can still have a good time, roll with the changes. Maybe DCL will add a second day at Castaway. Who knows. What I think is a safe bet, is that if you go in relaxed and knowing Disney will provide a good time regardless, then you may be surprised with something you didn't expect.
Our rerouted WBTA missed 2 ports, but we overnighted in NYC. Never in a 100 years would I have thought I would get to stand on the ship and look out a million dollar view of manhattan at night. If I had to pick in hindsight, I'd probably pick the extra day/night in NYC than the original ports we had anyway.

I was on that cruise. Never seen one guest berate the crew like you said. Not saying that it didn’t happen. You said it happen I believe you but I didn’t see any. I will pick staying over in NYC also. Had a great time there. We will never see this as a schedule port over night. As it will be way too expensive. What show were you talking about that was made in four hours?

I am perfectly fine never setting foot in Key West again...thought that this was one of the most boring ports ever.

Most people were pretty chill about the changes, I guess some people were not. It really surprised me have guests just yelling at the crew. Guest Services had a bad day from what I heard.

The show Seriously?! put on in Fathoms by Tony from Spain. The timeline is what he stated, so I can only go by that. But it seemed pretty believable. Was honestly some of his best work. There was no description in the digital navigator (maybe because of the last minute addition) so I just went to see what it was because I'd never heard of Seriously?! and boy was it great. He got the loudest applause at the end. He earned it.

I watched seriously. Yep Tony is a funny guy. Too bad we missed the guitar guy. Can’t think of his name. One of DCL most requested act. Seen him probably five times but he always great. The audience will call out a song and he will sing a little bit of it. Funny guy also. Can’t think of his name. We were suppose to pick him up in Canada. . I need a DCL cruise badly. This was my last cruise the transatlantic. Someone help me what is that guys name.

Bravo to you for having a positive attitude! I wish more people were like you!

And honestly - what kind of person berates a crew member over a decision made by DCL and the Captain based on the safety of the ship and its passengers? Ridiculous. And do they really think that they're going to change anyone's mind? I can see it now, "Honey - go yell at Guest Services - they'll call the Captain and we'll be in port in no time!" Seriously. So you missed a couple of ports. You're still on a Disney Cruise Line ship taking a vacation that most people dream of! Perspective!

We were on the 2020 WBPC and missed all but 2 of our ports. The crew was amazing and we had a great time. You have to roll with the punches and make the best out of it.
