What were your opinions of the Disney Wish elevators?

Our problem has never been the elevators, just the inconsiderate people using them. They think because the door opens on the one in front of them that the people who have been waiting before they arrived are just out of luck and should wait longer.

I saw that happen a lot. I also had people try and get past us as were were getting out. And those elevators being narrow, means people are rubbing up against you to get in. Is that good or bad, lol! Depends.

I put that down to the “blink and you miss it” because those doors close fast. I did say a couple of time “How about you let me out before you walk into me”.

Overall though, those things were a very, very minor inconvenience. Didn’t detract from anything and was never overtly annoying

Or the ones that try to enter the elevator before letting those in the elevator get off.

We experienced minimal poor behavior on our cruise thankfully. Definitely a few occasions of this happening. Thankfully it was usually children rushing in instead of adults. Of the two or three times it happened the Parent was there getting the kid out of the way and apologizing.

They really need to implement a system like they have at Coronado for the elevator banks where you enter what floor your going to and it automatically provides you an elevator that goes to that floor. Instead of having to figure out which elevators go to which floors, the system takes the extra fuss and muss out of the situation.

One of the other things about this ship that I really dislike is that they always block off the Stairwell behind Cinderella. It was clear from the way the ship was built that they intended for people to use that stairwell instead of having it blocked off all the time. If you wanted to go from 3 - 4, you had to go all the way forward or aft to find a stairwell. Definitely could have made the main two floors flow better.

can you take any elevator to 11, get out, and then press the "up" button at the elevator lobby on 11? wouldn't that guarantee that one of the 12/13 elevators would come? still a pain, but that would alleviate the need to take the stairs once arriving on 11.
Unless you absolutely couldn't walk up the stairs, it was significantly faster just to take the stairs. You could wait a significant amount of time for the elevators.

Not really an option for a lot of folks.

Yep. I called it "Elfing" the elevators. Most people didn't get it. I'm pleased that you and I are on the same page.

The only issue we had is people would sometimes lean against the buttons. Then you had to either stop at every floor or get off and get a new elevator. But no one was rude and there are so many that we never had trouble getting one when we needed it. We usually try to use the stairs but things are so spread out that sometimes we did have to use the elevators.

We have that at work, and it is amazing. It would also fix the issue of ending up on an elevator that doesn't go to the floor you want to go to (or they should have a second panel to call the elevator to 12/13).

Literally fixes all the problems in one fell swoop.

I don't mind not having a midship elevator if the ones you do have work and work well. These do the exact opposite of work well. I sailed in Nov 2022 and one of the main things I remember is literally just waiting for elevators. We were an adults only party and frequented the Adults only areas mostly. We decided just to do 11 for everything and just walk up the stairs because getting the other elevators took too long.

I hope the people who designed the Wish sailed on it and understand the concerns that the rest of us have and actually take action. 🤞 I feel like that's why so many people love the Wonder/Fantasy. As the second ship they got the benefit of hindsight from the first two.

we used the stairs most of the time. I wasn't a fan of the rectangular shape.

It seems like they should have replaced that stage and put in some more elevators there. When I walked past the stage one evening, there were just little kids playing on it and running in and out of the curtain.

There are actually more elevators on the Wish than there are on the old ships even with two elevator banks instead of three if you count them up. The amount of space they save by not having a third elevator bank is astronomical. We are used to being presented with an elevator instead of having to go to them/find them which was a change but not a surprise considering this ship was built/designed primarily in Europe. There is a far higher dependence on elevators in North America.

If you look at the usage for the elevators on the old ships, I'd bet you its 50-75% midship elevator usage while forward/aft pickup the leftovers. Those 6 elevators do far more work than Forward/Aft elevators.

The problem isn't where they're located, the problem is that they don't work the way they need to. The stage was constantly in use on our Cruise in November so it did make sense in my mind to have it there.

The Dream and Fantasy have 14 elevators, the Wish has 16. It would be interesting to know what the square footage of elevator space is though.

I think the best and easiest fix to the elevators is to simply reprogram the call buttons to break the bank of elevators into two, having two buttons call four elevators instead of having four buttons call eight. Also, just put a one inch lip around the floor buttons inside the elevator so people can't accidently brush along them push them all. The stage is fine and has some great things that can be done with it.

In order to do this, it would require a lot more work because you would have to fully re-panel and rework two sets of elevators (One set of forward, One set aft) still putting preverbal "duck tape" on it as you'd still run into issues on Decks 12/13.

There is actually a system that already exists that would be an easier fix. Its a touchscreen that you select your floor and then it tells you which elevator to go to. This works well because if you need higher levels, the system will only give you an elevator that goes to that level. Essentially it syncs up all 8 elevators so they get you where you need to go as fast as possible.

Coronado Springs at WDW actually has this system already, as do many other places.

IOW make it an ATRIUM like on the other ships and not a stupid extra theater. The atrium has the midship elevator bank and is AMAZING.

While I understand the distaste for the new format, With the amount of space they save with two elevator banks, I doubt you'd see them return to the Forward/Mid/Aft format with this set of 3 ships as massive changes would be needed for floorplans.

While I didn't love it I have to say I'm surprised that someone feels so passionately in a negative way about it.
