This is a really odd, off the wall question. I would sincerely hope that nothing like this ever happens on the DCL, but I'm curious as to how they would handle something like this.
Last October, I cruised on Carnival for a 4 day cruise. IMHO, the cruise was TERRIBLE, and I will never, EVER cruise on Carnival again. Service, food, atmosphere was downright awful.
I went to the spa twice. On one occasion, I had a facial, and the woman told me that I had rosacia...which is a total and complete lie. I had no redness or flushing of any kind on my face, and she was very pushy to try and get me to purchase a $50 bottle of pills that was supposed to clear this up.
The second time was much, much worse. I decided to try one of those Detox programs where they hook the little cables to your stomach and legs, and it's supposed to help tone and firm your skin/muscles. They put a weird mud on your body, and wrap you in something similar to electric blankets.
I had heard that this program was actually very relaxing, with terrific results. After laying down on the table, the woman stuck the little tabs on me, covered me with the mud and the blanket, turned the machine on and left.
Within a minute, my legs were literally burning. They hurt so badly, I was almost crying. It made this electrical current run through my body that did tighten the muscles, but the pain was so bad, I was trying to figure out how to get the cables OFF of me. When the woman came in to check on me, I told her right away that my legs felt like they had burns on them, but the woman told me it was supposed to feel like that. She shortened the time and upped the dosage of electricity, and at that time, I finally told her to turn the machine off. I was shaking and crying because the pain in my legs was unreal.
After washing the mud off in the spa, there were literally burns marks on my upper thighs...about the size of a cigarette burn, some larger than others. They were bruising quickly, and there was a disgusting smell in the air of burning flesh.
I immediately complained to her, and she said that the marks would go away in an hour. What?! I tend to bruise a little easy, and this was something that was NOT going to go away in an hour. The burns started to blister and bubble, and I couldn't put my jeans back on, it hurt that bad. I wrapped a towel around me and went to the spa counter and complained. I showed them the markings (my stomach did not receive any, luckily) and they said they would speak to the spa manager right away. Lo and behold, the spa manager was the SAME WOMAN who did the treatment on me! She again insisted that the markings were normal, and they would go away in about an hour.
So, I hobbled back to my room, and my (then) husband freaked out. He was extremely angry and demanded that we go back and complain again. Well, the spa actually CLOSED EARLY for some reason. We went to the front desk to complain, and were given a number to call when we returned home.
Of course, many calls and letters later, we never heard anything from Carnival Cruise Line. I considered suing them, as it was nearly 3 months before the burns went away and I could comfortably wear pants again. I took pictures on an almost daily basis of my legs for proof. Unfortunately, I never got around to any legal happening because soon after the cruise, my husband and I started our divorce. To this day (literally 1 year to the day later), I have burn marks on my upper legs (a nice reminder of the end of my marriage, I might add
). I'm almost embarrassed to go swimming in a bathing suit because it looks like I took something and burned myself.
So, at any rate, do not cruise Carnival. They're a joke.
At least I know DCL is wonderful!
