When you were growing up during Halloween do you remember what was the first Halloween costume you dressed up as? For me my very first Halloween costume was a cute little bunny and I looked so darling in it and it was the very first Halloween I celebrated when I was a little girl. Then next year I dressed as Barbie and my costume was amazing and then my father and I started dressing up together and that year I was movie star Barbie and Dad was a lumberjack and then when Batman Returns came out in theaters I dressed up as Catwoman and I was so cool and then I was a Power Ranger twice and Dad was a clown and my mom bought Dad clown makeup and a hat and when we dressed Dad up he looked so much like clown Emmett Kelly but my dad was a cool clown. Then I was a cheerleader and how I decided to become a cheerleader was because I was a fan of the Bring It On movie series and seeing the cheerleaders in action in Bring It On I wanted to dress as a cheerleader for Halloween and Dad was Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Caribbean too. I also was a rock star and a carhop waitress for Halloween as well

The first one I remember is when my mom made me a Southern belle costume. I still have a picture somewhere.

I don't remember for sure, but I definitely remember I had some of those costumes that came in a box with a window on it.

The best I can research they were called "Ben Cooper" costumes.

The first that I remember (only because of photographic evidence) is my kindergarten costume. Raggedy Ann. It probably came in that box with the clear cellophane window. Complete with full plastic face mask that hindered vision and breathing.
Yep, another old-timer here. Those boxed costumes were what most of us wore in the 1960’s. Very few kids had homemade costumes, and if they did, it was something simple, like a hobo or a ghost with a sheet, ala Charlie Brown.

One of the first ones I can remember was Cinderella. When I was in 2nd grade (I think), my mom made me a Little Red Riding Hood cape, out of some old curtains. So much more comfortable, and nice to be able to breathe and see clearly, without the plastic mask!

I remember being a ghost when I was little and hardly being able to see (and breathe)out of the little holes my Mom had cut in the sheet. Not sure if it was my first costume; just the one I really remember from my early childhood.

The first costume I remember was a hobo, which just meant I wore one of my Dad's flannel shirts and a pair of his jeans or something. My Mom put some clothesline through the loops to hold it up and I had an old broomstick with a bandanna tied to it. I only remember this costume because we had a Halloween party at my Brownie troop's meeting place. Almost fifty years ago now.

I even was Mulan for Halloween and I was dressed in the matchmaker outfit Mulan wore when she visits the matchmaker and since Mulan's costume wasn't in my size my mom let me use her silk bathrobe as the costume and I even had my face painted like Mulan's too and I was really pretty and when I had my photo taken my cat played the part of Little Brother even though there was no Little Brother costume and my cat was wonderful as Little Brother. I was also Jane from Disney's Tarzan too and I actually looked like Jane and people commented on my costume too when I trick-or-treated

I don't know what I was when I was really little, but the earliest one I have clear memories of was a green crayon when I was six. - My Dad made it out of posterboard rolled into a tube, with a matching pointy hat. I could walk (very carefully) but not sit down. 😆

I don't remember, but I've seen the photos. My parents had 4 kids by their 5th wedding anniversary (good Catholics). My mom made 3 clown costumes, while she was in labor with my younger sister. Sis was born on Halloween. They were red with small white polka-dots, with pom-poms down the front, matching hats. I'm still in awe that she whipped out three costumes while 9 months pregnant and in labor!

Ironically, it was Mickey Mouse! I had one of those plastic masks and my mom made the rest of my costume. I had a black turtleneck, red shorts with suspenders, a tail and white gloves.

First costume I remember was a princess. Not a specific Disney princess, just a generic princess. My mom made the costume, and it was pale pink with a tiny speckled print.

We used to get dressed up in our mother’s old clothing and a mask from Woolworth, a store similar to modern day Walmarts.

Older sister reminded me recently that I wore a homemade Raggedy Ann/ Andy outfit with my then bestie one year. I think it was actually part of a dance costume but since we are both old as sin who knows whose memory is going first?

I suspect my parents dressed me up when I was a baby, but the first one I remember was a ballerina with a tutu and all. I was 3. Out trick or treating, we saw the boy I liked (an older man, he was 4 lol). Can't remember his costume. But we ran to each other and hugged and kissed, and promptly toppled over lol.

The best I remember was 3rd grade. We used to be able to go home lunchtime for 50 minutes. My older sister threw together stuff from around the house and turned me into the cutest little punk rocker. When I went back to school my teacher sent me around to all the other teachers to see, and the principal too! 🤣

We have pictures from my first Halloween where my parents had put a huge wig on my head (little bald baby).

But the first I truly remember was Raggedy Ann. I had a life size (bigger than me Raggedy Ann doll), so I wore her dress and bloomers when I was about 4 for Halloween.
