I used to attend a vocational technology school in my senior year of high school. There, they had a full on bakery that was run by fellow students, and I would go and get a few cookies to munch on for later in the day.
We had one vending machine in the gym in high school never used it it had sold in it back when I went to school you were not allowed to bring drinks into class and you were not allowed to go near the vending machine till after school when school was out I left so never used it

We didn't have vending machines in my elementary school until one magical day when they got a soda machine. Of course, the kids largely abused the privelage, so they did make a rule that you couldn't use it until after school. Of course, kids would sneak-purchase a soda from it and we'd all cover. I usually brought soda from home, which I would sometimes auction off to the highest bidder. It was a Pepsi machine, so I'd make sure to bring Coke products, which were more popular.
My highschool also had drink machines of various types, but I rarely used those either.
we had those until there was a ban on soda district wide starting in my junior year. no other vending machines or anything other than candy sold at the 'student store' but our cafeteria operated the entire day serving breakfast foods until about end of 3rd period then switching to lunch foods through the lunch break and until the end of 6th period, then switching to lighter stuff and more 'grab and go' kind of items until an hour after the end of the school day.
Nothing like that at my elementary or junior high school. If I ever bought anything from my high school snack bar or vending machines, I don't remember it. But it has been over 50 years since I graduated.
