What was your favorite book that you had to read in school?

Believe it or not - The Lord of the Flies. I was totally enthrawled. I read it a second time after we were done in class.

We spent a whole year on the Odyssey and the Iliad by
Homer. It was rough going for 14-15 year olds but our
teacher made me love it. I really liked Canterbuy Tales
by Chaucer too!

My favorites from junior high were The Pigman and Z is for Zachariah... In high school I loved The Great Gatsby and Brighton Rock.

I don't remember which one was my favorite that I had to read.

To Kill A Mockingbird, 10th grade.

Its still my favorite all time book.

I really liked pigman. It was the first book I was interested in school

The Grapes of Wrath...another book that was banned..thought to be Communist propoganda...and Anti American. Still my fave book.

Since I'm technically still "in" school my favorite books to read aloud with my classes include:
Skinnybones by Barbara Park (laugh out loud funny)
Bridge to Terabithia (very serious, but very engaging)
The 21 Balloons (a fanciful book about Krakatoa with a government based on restaurants and diamonds)
AND
Tuck Everlasting (Just saw that Disney is making a movie of this - take your kids to see this one! It is a wonderful book!)

:D Good for you! This is one of the things the sponsors of "Banned Book Week" are encouraging. Did you notice how many others listed To Kill a Mockingbird as one of their favorites?

Among my favorites from high school (long ago -- they were written on papyrus, I think) are Flowers for Algernon and A Tale of Two Cities. I also discovered The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the high school library, but they weren't required.

1. Portrait of a Lady
2. Jane Eyre
3. The Great Gatsby

I guess they would have to be
1) Jane Eyre

2) Gone with the Wind.

These are the only two books I have read more than once, actually have read each one several times.

There are so many. One book I really enjoyed & to this day do not know why I choose to read it, Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat (sp?).
