Need some ideas on what DVD's to rent here.

I just saw "An Unfinished Life" with Robert Redford, Jennifer Lopez, Morgan Freeman and Camryn Manheim.

It was a VERY VERY Good movie. I have also told other people, they rented it...and they LIKED it also. Even my brother, who usually hates everything I recommend...LOVED this Movie. In fact he called me at 1:00am just to tell me what a Great movie this was.

Funny, but I never heard of this movie at all. Just saw it in the video store, and figured Redford & Freeman GOOD...Lopez...yuk! But I took it anyway.

Just the basics here.....It is a story about a man, Redford, whose son is killed in a car accident many years ago. His DIL is Lopez and for reason I won't mention here...comes back to live with her FIL with a suprise. These two haven't talked to each other since the sons funeral.
There are also very interesting subplots with Freeman's & Manheims characters.

It's a drama, with GREAT storyline. And some rather nice scenery too!

So, Before I go buy the microwave popcorn...What was the last Good DVD you rented?????? :3dglasses

Last good DVD I rented. Hm... Probably Castle in The Sky. We got that on Netflix. Since I'd liked Spirited Away, as well, my mom was apperantly pretty confident that I'd probably like all the Miyazaki movies, and bought Howl's Moving Castle, without me seeing it first, and I hated it.

Just bad luck I guess. Maybe I stepped on a slug without knowing it.

Its not new, but the last great DVD I rented was Hotel Rwanda. It was wonderful and at the time I suggested it to all my friends. DS didn't really want to rent it, but I made such a big deal about it he rented it just so he could say he watched it. He was so blown away by it, HE started recommending it to the guys in his unit.

Another vote for Walk the Line. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time

Completely agree with you about "Unfinished Life." What a GREAT movie, and the scenery was just as awesome!! I love Robert Redford, he STILL looks good to me!! :)

I'd seen the movie previewed at a movie I saw in the theater, so figured it would come to the theater but it never did. I did a search for it at Netflix and found out when it was going to be released so added it to my list that way.

A couple others I've seen recently that I really liked were "Walk the Line" and "Dreamer."

I finally saw Cinderella Man and thought it was wonderful. Russell Crowe gave such a wonderful performance, I was very moved.

Last week I saw Goodnight and Goodluck and if Phillip Seymour Hoffman hadn't won the Oscar, David Strathairn should have.

Can you tell I am catching up on my Oscar flicks? :teeth:

Great thread. I love Jane Austin and Elizabeth Bennett is my favorite character in English Lit so I was anxious to see Pride & Prejudice with Kiera Knightly. Wonderful Adaptation. Really enjoyable. I especially love what they did with Mrs.Bennett. Usually she is almost a comic figure but this time they explained her seemingly neurotic behavior. I also saw Sisterhood of Traveling pants which was pretty good. I just bought Nanny McPhee which was really enjoyable.

Did you see Bride and Prejudice? I thought they actually did a better job of explaining Mr. Wickham and was overall a very well done update. I did very much like the Kiera Knightly version too.

I love Jane Austen movies!

I loved Walk the Line as well. Unfinished Life just came in from netflix. Now I cant wait to see it!

Wow, I loved "Howl's Moving Castle"!!! In fact it is my favorite of his movies.
I also like "Descendants of Darkness" and other demon/vampire anime so that might be why.;)

Shopgirl and Walk The Line. Capote was also quite good. I am always impressed with Philip Seymour Hoffman.

"proof"

with Gwenyth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins.

We are way behind on movies

Family stone was pretty good. I have walk the line at home but I haven't watched it yet.

The Greatest Game Ever Played.

Both DH and I really enjoyed it.

Unfinished Life right before that. Another good one.
