We were thinking of getting some $29.50 Vacation Kingdom Lunch Vouchers from Connections and we were wondering what you guys thought were the best ways of using them.

Did you save a lot of money?

Were they easy to use?

Thanks for any ideas, we don't know how many to order...

DH and myself ate at Rainforest at AK on 12-24-02. Here is what we ate with our voucher. Blue crab dip with chips for 8.49. Followed by the stuffed maine lobster for 39.95. For desset we had the bannanas foster for 6.99. Everything was great. the desert was wonderful. The total for this meal including 6% tax and 15% tips would have been around 67.60. So I thought that our voucher was a steal.

We ate at Rainforest on 12/26 and used three vouchers. Here's what we got:

Appetizers -

Shrimp cocktail - $9.99
Awesome appetizer adventure (counts as two appetizers) - $13.99

Entrees -

Main stuffed lobster - $39.95
Nile Shrimp Enbrouchette - $19.99
Maya's Mixed Grill - $19.99

Desserts -

Sparkling volcano (counts as two desserts) $12.99
Gorillas in the Mist - $5.99

The waitress said we could also get some dessert for $15- something that counted as one dessert and came with a souvenir cup, but the kids were set on the volcano and DH wanted the Gorillas in the Mist.

Drinks -

We got three smoothies that I don't see on the online menu, but they were over $5 each. The waitress told us the voucher would cover ANY drink as long as it did not contain alcohol - virgin daquiris or smoothies or whatever we wanted.

Then we ordered two Cokes, which we paid for ourselves - $5.20.

So our bill that was covered by the three vouchers was approximately $140, plus tax, plus tip. I don't know what the final total would have been with tax and tip, but we paid $88.50 for the three vouchers so we saved $51 even before tax or tip were added in. And we could have ordered more expensive things than we did!

The waitress suggested things to order, knew exactly what the vouchers were and seemed glad to see them!

Oh, I should have said that the three vouchers we used were for two adults and three kids - 17, 14 and 13 - and we all were stuffed. One voucher should be plenty of food for two adults unless one of them is a really big eater. I know when we go out to eat at home we usually don't order an appetizer or dessert, so if you are used to each person eating an entree, then one entree plus appetizer and dessert should be enough for two.

Last month we used 5 lunch vouchers, LeCellier (twice). Rain Forest, Brown Derby and Rose and Crown. They were all good value, Rain Forest the most and Rose and Crown the least. Of the four we liked LeCellier the best. The waiters were all great with the vouchers. LeCellier actually split the meal before they brought it out and the others brought an extra plate. (my husband and I split every meal). We left quite a big extra tip to make up for the waiter's lost tip due to splitting the meal.

We are going back in a couple of weeks, first thing I did when we got home was order more vouchers. (which I got in 2 or 3 days.)

The Q & C vouchers were a great value at Beaches and Cream and the waitress was exceptional. She advised us on what to get and divided the meal herself. Very friendly and efficient.

We used the lunch vouchers at Alfredo's. Here's what we got (and the approximate prices):

Meal one:
Caesar Salad: $7
Trittico di Pasta: $20
Chocolate Moouse: $5
Diet Coke: $2
Total: $34 plus tax and tip which would run at least 20% more

Meal two:
Fried calimari: $7
Lamb dinner: $25 (or it might have been $30)
Sampler plate for dessert: $7
Chocolate milk: $2
Total: $41 plus tax and tip

Child's meal (I believe these cost around $12.50):
Pizza appetizer: $10
Child's pasta: $5
Ice cream dessert: ???
Total: Over $15 plus tax and tip

We definitely got our money's worth, especially with the pizza appetizer on the kid's voucher.

We went to Alfredo's in early October for lunch and used 1 voucher. (My DH and I - Hubby has a HEALTHY appetite ;))

Stuzzicarolo - a rustic assortment of imported Italian meats and gourmet cheeses including prosciutto, bresaolo, mortadella and soppressata (serves 2 to 4) $23.95

Trittico di Pasta - sampler of our most pasta, lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and rigatoni Siciliana $19.75

and for dessert we had the smapler plate for (I think) $7
1 soda for $1.95

This came to $52.65
add in Tip 60.55
and tax - not sure what it is

Definately worth the price of a voucher. It was a nice lunch. The food is VERY RICH and I am glad we shared a meal. I don't think I could have eaten a whole entree. The sampler dessert was another good choice,. We had a little bit of everything. A very affordable way to try a new restaurant!

I have to second the vote on Rainforest Cafe.

I also want to add a vote for Mama Melrose's at MGM

We used 3 adult vouchers.

Approx Total before Tax and Tip = $35.00

Meal # 2
App: Asiago Crostini - $6.29
Entree: Wild Mushroom Rissotto - $14.95
Dessert: Chocolate Raspberry Torte - $4.95
Cold Beverage: Soda - $2.00

Approx Total before Tax and Tip = $32.00

Meal #3

Entree: Grilled Chicken Flatbread - $12.79
Dessert: Tiramisu - $4.99
Cold Beverage: Soda - $2.00
Hot Beverage: Cappuccino - $3.00
Approx Total before Tax and Tip = $28.00

This wasn't as a great of a deal as Rainforest, but we surely saved some money AND the food and service was fantastic!!!

We will definately go back to both places!

ok, trying not to be stupid here but if you check it out im rather new to the board.

What is Q & C?

Reading these post...you paid 29.95 each voucher for these lunches and got all that food without paying extra?

Q & C is Quick & Casual vouchers. They can be used for lunch or dinner, but are mostly for counter service (with the exception of Beaches & Cream). They are much less expensive, but with counter service you are limited on food choices...and seating :-)

And just to clarify...YES...all of the meals I mentioned above were completely covered with the vouchers. At Mama Melrose's we left a modest additional tip because the service was fantastic, but other than that at the end of the meal we just signed our vouchers and were on our way!

I also wanted to mention that we used the Breakfast vouchers at Crystal Palace and Donald's Breakfastosaurus and Lunch vouchers at San Angel Inn as well and although we broke even (as oppose to saving money) it was nice to have the meals pre-paid and not have to deal with figuring the tip and all that. Just sign and go...

I hope that helps.

PUMBAA,

At Alfredo's they let you order the samplers with only 1 voucher?? If so, that's awesome because I don't know of any other places that will let you use 1 voucher for anything that is meant to serve 2+ people.

What are these vouchers and how do I get them?

This sounds like too good a deal to pass up and when we go down to WDW we EAT! This would save me a fortune!

Linda

thanks Toy Story Mom for your explanation of all this. When I get my plans set all down the vouchers may be the route for me to take...just to have things prepaid is a blessing

Hi, we used these at brown derby in MGM and had a fantastic meal saved alot! .........goof

I used just one voucher at Alfredo's. It was an awesome deal. We would not have purchased a meal for that price, but with the vouchers, it is an awesome deal!
