When Disney started selling ownership? Wasn't it back in 2002, or was it 2001? I don't remember what the per point price was. Does anyone know?

Original price was $75. Could have gotten it down to $70 with the Magical Beginnings promotion (sell back first year's points for $5 per point). BCV opened June/July 2002.

As noted, the original pre-opening price was $75 per point beginning in March, 2002. In June, 2002 the price increased to $80 per point and another increase , to $84 per point, began in December, 2002.

At that time, the incentive was Magical Beginnings which offered a discount - BUT- the first year's points had to be returned to DVC and prorated annual fees were still paid on those points.

Yuck, makes me ill just thinking about it. We toured BCV in May of 2003 but decided not to buy in because we were expecting a baby and buying a house. I know it would have been irresponsible for us to purchase at that time but it doesn't take the sting out of not having done it back then. Oh, if I had a time machine........ :hourglass
Oh well, at least I own now. :cheer2:

We purchased for $75, got $5 off AND got to keep the first years points. Equivalent to $60 per point since we rented the first years points.

You're right. There have been a number of variations on the Magical Beginnings program and the early BCV program was $5 off and you got to keep the points. Prior programs offered a $10 per point discount, but you had to forfeit the first year's points. At VB they even had a discount of $15 per point with Magical Beginnings.

Thanks for the correction! :)

Ahhh....that is "one of those things" that I look back on with regret!!! We were scheduled to take a DVC tour on our trip in Dec '02 and had already decided to purchase...even before we had seen the resort.

That was the trip where our 11 month dd ended up in a pediatric hospital for the last three days of our trip with the Norwalk virus (which I also had). It was pretty bad....she was transferred to the hospital in an ambulance, and I was sitting in the back with her throwing up the way there!! She was released from the hospital just in time to catch our flight home.

Needless to say...we didn't make our appt. to check out BCV. And, now...three years later, I have spent a LOT of money on the resale market to get points there.

Although I am THRILLED that our dd recovered...how I WISH we could've bought back then....at least SOME of my points would've been cheaper. But, I just try to remember, "Everything happens for a reason."

Wanted to add that the BCV went on sale 2/3/02. I remember because that is when I started posting on the DIS and how I chose my name...BCV23.

There was also two options available since the resort wasn't actually open until the first few days of July. The option we chose was so many free nights at a deluxe (or maybe moderate) resort of your choice with I believe the exception of GF. We chose this option which gave us five free nights at the Polynesian with our original purchase. We added another 100 points in March or April and received 3 more nights. The other option was so many dollars off the purchase price.

We also purchased in February 2002. We took the $5.00 off discount and did not have to give any points back. So we paid $70 per point. Loved this option.

How fitting then that I put my name on the BCV waitlist on 2/3/06. It must have been "anniversary" luck that I got it so quickly. :cheer2:

Terry, we didn't give any points back either. Just got a vacation for less than the $5 x points we paid.

But for people not interested in a vacation at a deluxe, the $5 off was a great option.

Congratulations, keys2kingdom. It must have been BCV karma. :thumbsup2

Only thing I can say is could've should've would've never kick yourself in the _ss We passed on OKW with park admission til 2000 only to regret it, later bought BWV

BCV23 I wasn't really replying to your post, I know you didn't have to give points back. I was just confirming what someone posted earlier about not having to give the points back when getting the $5 off discount. When we bought our points I had a CM discount trip booked for later in the year at AKL and Beach Club so for me it was better cost wise to take the $5.00 discount.

Sorry, Terry I realized that you weren't referring to my post after it went on its merry way.

I can't remember if our "free" vacation beat out the AP discount available for our planned trip or if that trip was during a blackoout. AP discounts were still hefty in those good ol days. But we ran the numbers and for us the free trip was the way to go.

Got to love those CM discounts though! :cool1:

No need for an apology..... Especially from a fellow BCV lover!

Terry S, BCV23, and Simba's Mom.....I LOVE it when you guys post!!! I am such a BCV "fanatic", that sometimes I feel really guilty for gushing about the resort as much as I do...and yet, I just can't help it!!! :hyper:

It's so nice to know I have fellow "BCV lovers" who appreciate the resort as much as my family does!!! :grouphug:

Okay, can you tell I need a "fix"?!!! My trip at the end of March is NOT COMING FAST ENOUGH!!!

.....and, I really need my "add-on" to come thru soon!! Keys2kingdom....you REALLY need to spread some of that pixie dust my way!! :wizard:

Know how you feel! We first toured BWV in 1999 on our honeymoon. Could've purchased for around $52 pp (I believe--I'd have to look up my quote) giving back the first year of points. Didn't feel like we afford it then.

Looked into BCV in 2003. Bought sight unseen in Feb. 2003. Paid $74 pp giving up first year's points.

If we had bought in 1999, we'd have saved ourselves a lot of money! And had it paid off to boot! Oh well! :crazy2:
