At first we thought "minivan". But truly, the kids will likely be using only backless boosters (the youngest will be 4 and will likely have just moved into a booster). DH doesn't want to bring a lot of luggage - 2 large suitcases and 5 carryons (one for each of us, assuming carryons are allowed next year). We're staying for 2 weeks but will have a washer/dryer in the condo, and I'm happy to do laundry to save on packing. We don't need to bring any special supplies - just clothes and toilettries.
So, do you think we could rent an intermediate car? Those are usually roomy enough for when DH and I used to travel without kids - 2 large suitcases can usually fit, right (we always had 2 large suitcases, but I can't remember if we had to resort to putting one in the back seat)? Can the 3 kids fit across the back seat if all of them are in backless boosters? Or will they only fit if one is without a booster?
I'm trying to decide if an intermediate car is even an option to consider. We're trying to save money on this trip, and if we can get by with a cheaper vehicle then we will. We might get an amazing last minute minivan rate that makes it worthwhile, but right now the intermediate car at Dollar is cheaper than the minivan by enough to make it worthwhile considering.
