Curious what types of rooms people typically stayed in prior to buying into DVC.

EDIT: Opt-Return submitted the thread when I thought it would create a new line while I was still making it, oops! Now I can't edit the poll either, sigh.

We would typically stay at the Polynesian or Contemporary. That was back in the days when DVC was only (at least at WDW) at OKW and BWV

We had a friend who let us stay on her points; that was a turning point..

For years I had stayed at value and moderate resorts. Last year was our first visit with our son who was 2yrs at the time. We decided to stay at GF and it changed our mindset about Disney vacations moving forward. When traveling with a child we want convenience. We decided to buy into DVC and so far no regrets. Love the bigger rooms and access to kitchenette/kitchen.

We were almost exclusively at CR after our first few trips. We began going in 1994, almost yearly, and then bought in to DVC in 2009 because BLT was being built and the CR location was our favorite.

We tried a few other options a few times, and once there, we didn't like it and upgraded on the spot to CR...once had to go to Poly because CR was full. The drawback of that strategy is that you lose your discounts when you do that.

Now, 13 1/2 years later, things have changed and while we still enjoy BLT, RIV has taken top spot with VGF second and why split stays at those two places happen every trip...of course, Poly tower may end up being something we buy so that we can alternate with VGF...but, we shall see once its built!!!

For many years we only stayed at Coronado Springs. We love that resort and would book it in a heartbeat if it became DVC. I know, wishful thinking.

We always stayed at Pop. But we knew we would be adopting and would have a big family, so we started looking into DVC. Once we were placed with our twins (already had two bios), we bought in. So much easier with 4 kids to stay in one room with a kitchen and laundry! But….we also bought in at $68/point resale for OKW and bought what we could pay cash for. The prices now would make it a harder decision.

Stayed at CBR first trip, then Yacht Club for our honeymoon. Purchased at Old Key West in '96 while staying at All Stars.

We stayed at Poly, Contemporary, trailers in Campground, values, Disney Inn, Caribbean Beach, Jambo, Wilderness Lodge, and Dolphin.

I guess it depended on our budget! We should have bought into DVC earlier than 2003.

It's not an option in your poll, but I pretty much exclusively rented AirBNB or VRBO houses. I was adamant about how much better of a value off-site was (and still is) compared to staying at a Disney Resort.

But then I drank the Koolaid and now here we are.

Offsite several years, house and hotels, then several value, then 1 stay at a moderate, then Dvc . After Dvc , a few stray short stays at value/moderate when out of points.

When we returned to WDW in the 90's with the kids our first two vacations we stayed in the Fort Wilderness Cabins. Then we moved to the moderates. When our eldest was in the College Program we stayed at Old Key West and Polynesian. No one like OKW but everyone loved the Poly. The last few years were combinations of moderates and deluxe depending on number of vacationers.

We started at the moderates, then moved to the deluxe. Then purchased DVC.

1994, Ft. Wilderness Cabin
1995, offsite Marriott timeshare
1996, BWV cash stay
1997, Poly standard room, bought BWV

GF RPC, Poly (back when it was nice), WL, or AKL.

I’m not even convinced the DVC versions of these resorts are truly deluxe.

All over in childhood, but BW and Poly were our go-tos.

As an adult with my family, almost entirely swan and dolphin with a contemporary trip mixed in. After our first trip with our young child to the S&D we realized we wanted to go with Disney-operated resorts and bought in at my childhood mainstays, BWV and PVB.
