What type of vehicle?

My family of 5 (includes 3 boys ages 13, 11, and 9) are traveling from Ohio for 12 days in California this June. Our first stop is Curry Village where we're staying 4 nights. What type of vehicle would accomodate us and be good for such a drive?

Are you driving from Ohio? Definitely a van or larger SUV with the extended back. 3 kids in the back seat of a sedan, no matter how large, just won't do. You need seating for 7.

We are flying into LAX so we need to rent something. Is a minivan ok for the steep up and downhills of Yosemite or do we need something more powerful? It seems there are all types of vehicles in the photos we've seen.

You're right, there are all kinds of vehicles. Depending on where you are going, the drive won't be all that bad. The most common drive is coming in from Fresno--I think it's hiway 40 or 41. That drive will take you near the Mariposa Grove of big trees. That's pretty spectacular. Once you get into Yosemite Village, you park your car and take the free transportation anywhere you want to go.
