What type of shorts end up being the coolest?

My dilemma this year is shorts - I normally wear denim shorts, but they're a little heavier than I want this trip. What type of shorts do y'all wear? Khaki/canvas shorts? Athletic shorts? These seem like they'd be a little lighter-weight, and hopefully cooler. What type of fabric is the coolest?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Athletic shorts that have the words Dri-fit (Nike brand) or something similar. For other brands try quick dry. These are definatley the coolest as they wick away the moisture, dry quickly and are very thin. I would stay away from the denim as that will be hot and keep moisture in the material. Look for thin material and hiking or sports stores are the best place to look. Here are a couple of links:

I bought several pair of columbia wicking shorts a few years ago that I will be taking on my trip next week. They are like a very lightweight nylon fabric and dry very quickly. They are the best shorts I have for WDW!

Columbia, Nike, and many of the other athletic brands also offer dri-fit skirts and skorts - I find those even cooler.

Hi there! I have a pair of shorts and a pair of pants that roll up to capris in nylon/cotton that are fabulous --- they are from Land's End (SunLife collection??)... I got them on clearance @ Sears. I've gotten the shorts completely soaked, and they dried really quickly. They are super lightweight, but will get a little wrinkly in packing.

I have another pair of capris that I got @ Target AGES ago that are nylon with a little spandex. The fabric is a little heavier, but I find them very light to wear, even in super hot weather - and again - they dry so quickly.

So - big vote for nylon here! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, everyone, and for the links above! I'll look for the moisture-wicking kind. I did find some at LL Bean - they're hiking shorts with cargo pockets, and would be great for WDW!!

Thanks again.

I have some nice moisture wicking capris, which are good. But I have found that my favorite are just the athletic shorts you can buy for cheap at Walmart or other sporting goods stores. They are very comfortable, cheap, dry quickly, and easy to wash. If I dont want to spend money and do laundry you can just rinse then out with soap in the shower or sink and they dry overnight. I love them.

Hello, all! OP here, and I wanted to say thank you to everyone! I think I found the perfect shorts. They're Columbia Sportswear brand, and you can get them at REI (and other places on the internet).

They're called "Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts" and come in tons of colors. They're made out of a moisture-wicking material (some type of nylon) and are quite lightweight. They're a good length (6" inseam) and have some small cargo pockets with velcro or zippers. I got them in khaki and navy, and am going to get one more pair in black (so I can wear over my swimsuit!).

They cost around $25 to $35, depending on where you buy them. If you have an REI store near you, they'll deliver them to the store for free (and return them for free if they don't fit). I'm so excited!

Thanks again for the suggestions!
