Where does your family of 4 usually stay?

Just curious

Well we haven't stayed anywhere yet, but we purchased enough points for a 2 bedrooms since I have a boy and a girl. Also, I like the idea of having the Living Room and Kitchen available in the evenings and in the morning without having to worry about waking anyone up.

Studio so far. We don't spend that much time in the room and like to conserve our points.

Two bedroom. With DS/16 and a friend/17 we need the extra bathroom (I worry about DS drowning he's in there so long) The living room/kitchen works so no gets wokenup unnecessarily.

My family of three only stays in the GV.

We're a family of 3 +1 on vacations as DS, 19 always brings a buddy. Previous trips we've gotten a 1 BDRM for the 4 of us and it was great. This year we got a 2 BDRM as other family members came along. They all had their own rooms, but they had studios and our space tended to be used for evening pizza suppers and get togethers. We got REAL spoiled with those 2 bedrooms! It's going to be tough to go back to 1 bdrm - especially since DH and DS are voting heavily for the 2 bedroom again.

Our first choice is BWV - 1B - Standard view. Booking at 11 mos. out, I've had no problems getting what I need. We did a studio to save some points that last couple trips (over the weekend or whatever). We'll probably not go back to the studio unless we really have to.

We like the extra room and having the full kitchen.

We bought enough points for the 4 of us to stay in a 2 BR (except holiday weeks). If we needed to due to a shortage of points, we could stay in a 1 BR without a problem, but a 2 BR is just more comfortable. We plan on going down during Christmas week in 2003, and I'm trying to decide between a 1 BR(have enough points), or a 2 BR (would need to borrow from 2004). I go back and forth on this one; at least I have until the end of January to decide!

For shorter trips (and while our children are young) we use the studio to save points. For longer trips, we usually get the 1BR to for the kitchen, full-size fridge, and W/D. Although, we saw only one person washing clothes at the HHI resort. The free W/D machines were a surprise.

Part of my goal for our family vacation is minimizing whining. That means a 2 BD for the four of us. 2 DSs, ages 15 & 8, cannot share a bed w/o complaining. I gave in once & got a 2 BD & now there is NO turning back!

Hi Mikesmom!

We have the same situation (3+1- DS, 16, wants to bring friend). Would you mind sharing what your sleeping arrangement was in 1BR?

We are new to DVC-trying to figure this out...Did you give the guys the BR and use sofa for yourselves? Our DS wouldn't share sleep sofa with friend!!LOL!!

Would love a 2BR (with 2nd bath) but need to conserve points as we can only travel in summer when pts are high.
Thanks!:D

Our family of four (DD11 & DD13) have stayed in the 1BR thus far. The two girls won't share the sleeper sofa so we bring an air mattress and that works out pretty well, though they did fight about that at the beginning of the last trip.

sueg.....I had to laugh about your goal of minimizing whining! So true, so true! :) Here we are taking the kids on dream vacations every year in accommodations we never thought we could afford and they still manage to squabble about stuff. Just the nature of siblings, I guess.

And though I "voted" for the 1BR, we may be moving up to a 2BR for future visits. I like the idea of a kitchen that we wouldn't have to tiptoe around in before the kids get up. And I also like the idea of a "neutral zone" between us and the kids! :)

Mai Ku Tiki-
The boys shared the sleeper sofa with no problems and we got the bedroom.

Up until the first BWV trip our family of 3 had been down 3 or 4 times but always stayed offsite, and NOT anywhere fancy. So DS was so blown away by the room, I think he would have been happy if we had told him he had to sleep on the bathroom floor. His buddy's parents were going through some financial stress, which meant no family vacation for them that year, so he was grateful to come along with us under any conditions. Both the boys were also used to overnight stays with friends where they may have slept on anything from a spare couch to the floor.

Of course now we've ruined 'em with the 2 BDRM. At BWV, they traded off and alternated the bed and the pullout. At OKW, of course, they each had their own beds. Plus they had tons of room in there (yeah, Rich is right, it really is bigger) so now they want not only 2 BDRM, but they want to stay ot OKW.

With 2 little boys a 1BR is great for us. They think the pull out couch is a treat and can't believe they have a tv in their "room" and the kitchen nearby!

We had a relative join us this May so we moved to a 2BR at OKW for the same points as 1BR BWV Pref. view. That's our future. It was huge and I'm sure when the boys get bigger we'll all want the extra space.

Even though a 2BR is really nice for 4, I try to remind myself that a 1BR is still a whole lot nicer than a regular room.

We also take our kids out of school for our trips and I know that can't last forever either. Looks like we're good candidates for an add-on!
