What type of meals can you do in a studio?

I am just wondering what kind of food we can cook in our next trip? We will be staying ina studio at VWL for a week.
We are taking the ME and will have no car. My plan for the first day is to take a taxi ride to visit the outlet mall across I-4, then walk across the street to the Publix and get the grocery before going back to the resort by taxi.

For dinner, I am thinking about getting one of those Microwave pasta cooker thing they sell on TV.

Does anyone has any other ideas what you can do with just a microwave oven? I am not even sure if they have toaster in studios.
:confused3

Microwave meals can be good. Look at what is in them and maybe try some before you go so you get idea of the flavors. Some of the family size fit in microwave and feed 5. Pick up some fruit, cottage cheese or cheese, sandwich meats, bread, mac and cheese for micro. You should have toaster and can Bagel and cream cheese with english muffins for breakfast. Lots of options depending on what you want to do. Also their are dinners that do not need to be in refrigerator. Good luck.

It depends on the meals you want to have- canned meats such as ravilo are good- just pick up some bowls to cook them in. You could also grill out- I believe most of the resorts have grills and those that do provide utensils if you leave your room key.

They have soups and such that are individual serving sizes in microwavable containers that you can eat out of as well- I use those for lunch at times.

For the day you shop, I would get a ready cooked chicken from Publix. The left over chicken is delicious as well. I like salad fixings with the chicken when it's cold.

Cereal and milk! :) Waffles (from toaster). possibly with precooked bacon using the rest of the pack for a BLT :) (technically you could cook bacon yourself in the micro.. but the micros are small) .. If you stayed at BLT you could have a BLT at BLT.. HA HA ! :) Bagal and lox/cream cheese. Frozen dinners like lean cuisines, or a thaw only key lime pie. MMM! Hot dogs (micro) even beans and weanies. You can pick up an already cooked chicken from deli, and have with a cold salad from deli. Tuna fish/ chicken salad sand. and frozen chicken nuggets or pizza rolls micro..

I order 2 pizzas from Pizza Hut one night while there and have micro pizza for a few days. I am pretty sure this is not actual cooking.. but it is something we do. .. Actually it is about as much cooking as I do at home anyway. You could do this towards the end, when there is more room in your fridge. Noting I am pretty sure not all this will fit in the fridge they give you. It runs about 30$ for 2 larges with bread sticks and a 2 liter of pop.. and we eat dinner and have 2-3 other meals/snacks from it.

I don't know if you have Bertoli or Birdseye Voila dinners in Canada, but they are tasty microwavable dinners, easily prepared in the studio.
Echo the prepared chicken dinner, bags of salad, chicken or tuna salad sandwiches. You can also cook eggs in the microwave.

Have you heard of Garden grocer or we go shop? These are firms that will do the shopping for you and deliver, saving you that taxi fare.

Most of the resorts have BBQ grills (not sure about VWL). Get one of those light the bag charcoal packets and grill burgers or steaks. We did this at HHI and SSR and it worked great!

We are fans of the 'nosh' dinner...so crackers or nice bread and; cheese, hard salami, tomatoes, olives, tuna salad, rotissarie chicken, chicken salad, lettuce or whatever you like (that was several different nosh meals...not all in one)

We also get microwave packets of kashi grains or brown rice - as a side dish with rotisarrie chicken or a salad.

Seems like there are many options there. It is amazing what a fridge and a microwave over can do.
Has anyone tried using those microwave omelette maker? does it taste ok?

We are doing the dining plan so we plan on having breakfast items on hand in the studio: cereal, milk, oj, frozen waffles, bagels & fruit.

I am not sure if I missed the ages of your party, but last year, I stayed 9 nights in SSR Studio with two boys (13 and 8)...BIG EATERS! We also used ME and had no car rental and we flew in from California. We packed a few things that were light and would travel well. We each took one piece of luggage and did laundry midway through so we had room for some food. We each took a box of our favorite cereal, some goldfish, graham crackers, oatmeal, drink packets, etc. We bought a cheap set of plates and cups to re-use for our stay.We decided to try and order from Garden Grocer and it was well worth it! We ordered about $125 in groceries and this covered two meals/day for almost our whole trip. I am trying to remember what we ordered:
different lunch meat, rolls, chips
gallon of milk (and we had that frig packed without any problems)
case of water
hots dogs/buns (condiments were easy to get at the food courts)
frozen waffles/microwave bacon/sausage (we brought our own PB/Jelly/syrup packets)
yogurt, some fresh fruit, bagels, english muffins, cream cheese
tortillas, shredded cheese for quesadillas
salad mix (dressing packets)
coffee, tea bags (we did not purchase mugs since we were so far from the main bldg), a couple of two liters of soda
ramen noodles (youngest son loves them even in 100 degree weather)
eggs (yes they can be microwaved)
hummus, pitas, carrot sticks, celery, etc...

I was unsure how well this would work, but with the summer heat, we didn't really want massive heavy meals. I was really happy with how this worked out and we saved a few hundred dollars that we would have spent on burgers and friess anyway. At least we got a few healthy snacks in there. That is all I can think of off the top of my head, but you can really maximize use of the kitchenette if you put your mind to it. It was a little crowded the first couple of days because we had a lot of food with not a lot of storage.....

We leave today for a studio stay at VGC for 2 nights.
We are bringing a cooler as we can drive there. Flying in, you can order groceries at the various online stores. I planned for one dinner in villa, one dinner eating out.
I packed 2 steaks to grill on the gas grills. 2 bags of microwaveable rice. Bagged salad, dressing, seasoning for the steaks, and a plastic platter to carry the steaks from the room to the BBQ area. Studios only stock paper plates.
For breakfast/lunch, cans of tuna (pop top cans) bag of salad, english muffins and peanut butter. Can of coffee, filters, scoop, Coffeemate powder, and flavored liquid, Truvia packets, sugar packets. ( We drink a lot of coffee)
Cocktail time, Small vodka, bourbon, bottled, and canned mixers, microwave popcorn, canned peanuts, straws, and Disney thermal mugs.
Extra ziplock bags for any reason, leftovers, and keeping the cell, and camera dry. Also bringing metal flatware, as plastic doesn't "cut" it, but a call to housekeeping should get you "real" flatware on request.

The grills are over by the bike, and boat rental at VWL.
I think you need to buy charcoal for most of the grills. I know the grills at VGC are large patio gas grills, not sure which other DVCs have gas grills.

eggs in the microwave-(dh's fave for 2 weeks in our studio)
break an egg into a micro safe bowl, whip it with a fork, micro for about a minute,or till firm, lay a slice of swiss cheese on top, micro for another 20 seconds, toast 2 pieces bread, put egg and cheese(and possibly ham too) on toast,he added hot sauce and salt/pepper- that is a hearty, easy and fast breakfast! (my dh is obsessed with eggs every day) you don't need a special dish to mirco an egg, just be sure the yolk is broken;) add o.j. and as cup of tea, that's breakfast!
bowls of cereal, some packs of precooked bacon for teenkid,my youngest likes the easymac and cheese in cups for breakfast(yeah,I know) but you just add some water and cook-
We also had some bagged ceasar salads and instant flavored mashed potatoes- a can of chili or 2 -
you could make a nice deli style sandwich too....order apizza, eat warm leftovers....
we flew,so I packed some square ziploc brand containers with lids(brought sandwiches on plane, the washed and used as bowls in room)
does OKW have grills? I've never seen them.....

I try to bring as much as I can with me, I bring my own coffee in the pre-packaged filters, bagels, apples and also peanut butter. The peanut butter has to be packed in your checked luggage, the rest I just bring in my carry on.
My last trip I brought the Health Choice Fresh Mixers. Since they are dried they are light weight and easy to transport. You just add water and cook in the micro-wave and they were very good. I bought salads for myself a few days and had a quick healthy dinner.
But I travel solo so it is easy for me to do this. As one other poster indicated there are companies that will shop for you and bring the groceries to your resort.

We bought a cheap set of plates and cups to re-use for our stay......

That's a great advice TBLaube! I experimented cooking in the studio last year when we went to VB. The paper plates and bowls they have there just doesn't work well at all. I should remember that one.:goodvibes

We are just 2 adult no kid. Just that now we have only one 1 income instead of 2, we need to go the cheap rount. Thanks goodness we bought DVC in cash when we had money couple years ago, now we only have to pay the annual due and look for the cheap airfare we still can enjoy our Disney vacation. We are planning to go to the park just one day (the give a day promo) and the rest of the time just enjoy the all the resorts and dtd.

That's another great idea bobbiwoz! We can make 2 meals out of it. A bag of premade salad should last the whole trip. I love it we have a fridge in the studio! :thumbsup2

This is us and always has been. If air is too much, we drive. I love hanging out at the resort and DTD!! We were never big fans of restaurant food and always made meals in our room even the month we stayed in a studio!

Turkey bacon cooks fast in the micro and used our Mickey Waffler (purchased in gift shop as a souvenir) alot too!
