Ok ladies, I'm doing another baby shower this weekend. Somehow, I ended up doing finger sandwiches, which aren't my usual thing. What kinds should I make? Should I just stick to the typical chicken salad/pimento cheese?

salsa chicken salad finger sandwich is different

this is my basic go to sandwich for parties, You can add and subtact what you like or don't like.

PINWHEEL SANDWICHES

4 (8-in.) soft taco size whole wheat tortilla
1/4 cup Mayonnaise
1 cup baby spinach leaves
16 very thin tomato slices
4 ounces deli sliced turkey breast
4 ounces thinly sliced low fat cheddar cheese

On tortillas, evenly spread Mayonnaise. Top with spinach, tomato, turkey and cheese; roll tightly. Wrap in aluminum foil and chill 15 minutes. Unwrap and slice into pinwheels

Is this one sandwich? The chicken salad and cheese are together? I have never heard of this kind of sandwich.
Many people don't like mayo so I wouldn't make anything that had that in it. You don't just make one kind of sandwich right, there are a bunch of different kinds? I have never been to a shower that had these, most are full sit down meals here so its interesting to read what other places do.

I made a great curry chicken spread and made regular sandwiches, then cut off the crusts, and cut them into quarters. Big Hit! (I made the spread in the food processor so it's very finely chopped.)

You know, there are these pinwheels that I LOVE, but I don't have the recipe. I know there are black olives, ham, cream cheese, and maybe pickles, but that's all I really know. Sound familiar to anybody?

Those are some nice tips on that website, regardless of whether or not I use any of those specific recipes!

The thing about ham salad, and even those pinwheels I love, is that the new mom can't eat those sandwiches. Unless your version of ham salad isn't like my dad's (which is totally possible considering salad recipe variations). I can't even find the canned ham he used to use to make it anymore.

Thanks for all the input, more is welcome!!

I missed it why can't the mom have ham salad??
I chop my own ham in the food processer, little pepper, relish, and lite mayo

Oh sorry, no I meant chicken salad sandwiches AND pimento cheese sandwiches, not all on one sandwich. This is the south, most anything I would make has mayo in it! Showers here are typically heavy appetizer type food...not meals. I haven't ever been to one that was a meal, and I've lived all across the state, and have a lot of relatives in TN, too. Very interesting! The sandwiches are just one of the foods that will be there. I'm also in charge of sausage balls. There are 3 other girls doing other foods. Despite not having a meal, nobody leaves hungry! It's from 2-4pm. I get a craving for shower food every so often because there are foods that you eat there that you just don't find in your normal diet!

I'm not sure about the curry-my previous experiences with curry have been less than successful.

Do you use real ham? If it's lunch meat style, or the kind in the can like my dad uses for ham salad, pregnant woment can't have the meat. I think because of listeria? So if you use real ham, I don't think it's an issue. Do you mind sharing a recipe?

Honestly I don't have a recipe. I usually make it when I get a free ham from the grocery store for easter or thanksgiving. I use left over cooked real ham just put it in the food processor chunked. I pulse it till its fairly smooth little bit chunky. I put it in a bowl and add a bunch of pepper (I love pepper so you may or may not want to add). I do not put any salt (ham is way too salty for me anyways). I just eyeball the relish and mayo. probably about a 1/3 cup of lite mayo per 1 cup of ham chunked and 2 tablespoons of sweet relish. My family loves it.

Event without food is unheard of in the South. It does not matter if baby shower, funeral, and marriage there is always be plenty of food. Probably enough to take full plates for a snack. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I am sorry that's wrong me to say be it's true.

A real easy one my Mom makes is an open faced Cucumber sandwich.

Cucumber sandwich:
White Bread cut into rounds
1 8oz container cream cheese
1/2 packet dry Italian dressing
Cucumbers sliced into rounds
Lemon pepper

Mix the dressing and softened cream cheese (can use the kind in a tub) together and spread on the bread rounds. Put one round/slice of cucumber on top and sprinkle the entire thing with lemon pepper.

Very easy! :thumbsup2

Good luck on the shower!

pregnant women can't have ham?? Wow....NEVER...in all my pregnancies have I heard that... Tuna, sushi, aspirin, but never ham... lol.. My poor kids.. I'm blaming the ham!!!! :rotfl2:

Anyways...at my shower, we had this simple ham roll (substitue your lunch meat of choice) where we used the onion creamcheese spread inside the lunch meat, and just rolled up the lunch meat and stabbed with a toothpick :)
CHeap, easy and good!! And, no fattening bread :thumbsup2 lol

I have made those before with the ham and cream cheese.

I just mix a little horseradish with my cream cheese (you can leave it off for a baby shower) and add a can of drained chopped black olives and mix well

Spread the mixture on the tortillas and then add your ham and wrap.

I have also had the ones where you take a large whole pickle (dry it off first)

Spread cream cheese on the ham slice and then wrap it around the pickle and then slice the pickle.

Another one is to use cream cheese and ranch dressing. Add a packet of ranch dressing to your cream cheese and spread it on the tortilla and then add turkey and anything else you like like bacon or spinach or cheese, pretty much anything and then wrap it.

My daughter and I hosted a baby shower not long ago. We did it for a mom that just was so not into little baby blocks, duckies, bunnies, that kind of thing. We made it really girly. We had "babytinis"...limeade and 7up with a little plastic baby floating in it served in a martini glass. Then we had a few salads, mini cupcakes and mini brownies served on fancy tiered cake plates for dessert. We used tiny grape tomatoes and stuffed them with herb flavored boursin cheese. And we had platters of mini sandwiches. We used the tiny cocktail rye bread for the cucumber sandwiches and then for the ham/cheese or turkey/cheese we used an oatmeal bread, regular size that we then cut out with tiny cookie cutters. Everything mini. We were quite a hit.
Cucumber sandwiches:
slice of cocktail rye
creamcheese with Good Season's dry Italian Drsg mix
cucumber slice
serve open face or put on another slice of cocktail rye

Ham/cheese or Turkey/cheese:
slice of Oatmeal bread
slice of cheese (cheddar or swiss)
slice of Oatmeal bread
slice of ham or turkey
slice of Oatmeal bread
use a tiny cookie cutter to cut out shape desired
hold together with a fancy pick

You know, I've never had a finger sandwich! Here you get wraps/panninis/stuffed breads - I had sloppy joes at mine (not the ground beef ones - 3 layer sandwiches on rye with ham/turkey/roast beef, cole slaw, and russian dressing). I love hearing about regional foods!

There is a chance that contamination may occur in ready-to-eat foods such as hot dogs and deli meats because contamination may occur after cooking and before packaging.

...

Do not eat hot dogs, luncheon meats or deli meats unless they are properly reheated to steaming (or 160 F)

...

Proper Temperatures for Cooking Foods:

Chicken 165-180 F
Egg Dishes 160 F
Ground Meat 160-165 F
Beef Medium well 160 F
Beef Well Done 170 F (not recommended to eat any meat cooked rare)
Pork 160-170 F
Ham (raw) 160 F
Ham (precooked) 140 F

I like a roast beef, cheddar with horseradish mayo wrap, cut into pinwheels.

I also do turkey, cheddar with cranberry mayo on a wrap cut into pinwheels.

Egg salad always makes for a nice finger sandwich too.
