We are going to Disney World the third week in December & I have no idea what to pack. In the past we've always gone in Sept. & it's still hot then. I'm thinking of packing jeans, capris, t-shirts, & a thin jacket for nights. Does that sound about right? What are ya'll suggestions?

We were there Christmas/New Year's 2007/2008 and all the days were warm to hot (shorts or capris) until the day before we left. We wore jeans and sweatshirts that day (although we saw plenty of people with full on winter coats and gloves!).

We'll be there the third week too! This will be our 3rd December trip. Florida weather in December is really unpredictable. In one week we've worn everything from shorts and t-shirts to several layers, jackets, and gloves. My suggestions is to prepare for anything and pack things you can wear in layers. We've even gone swimming in December and then three days later we were wearing hats and gloves.

In Dec 2007 we were there the first week in Dec. It was warm to hot during the day but some nights we needed sweatshirts.

Going same time this upcoming trip. I'll just buy a sweatshirt when I get there if necessary!

Have fun!!!!

As veteran December travelers we have been dressed in shorts & tees on some trips then other trips we have dressed in layers. Some trips we have needed gloves, hats, and scarves. Now we try to bring a little bit of everything to cover all our bases. We normally try to watch the weather forecasts before we leave so we know how to prepare.

Plan on a bit of everything! :goodvibes
Like PP have stated...sometimes very warm....sometimes cold and sometimes inbetween!!

Thank you for the replies. We'll be checking the weather before we pack. I'm hoping for nice, cool weather. :goodvibes

Jeans, short sleeves/three quarter sleeves and hoodies! I was there one time in november and it got quite chilly.

We have usually gone in December. I agree the temperature can vary significantly from one day to the next. I'll add that you shouldn't rely too much on the forecast.

That goes for when you are packing to leave for the trip but also while you are there. The weather is too unpredictable. The forecast for the next day can say rain and it will be sunny, all day. And a forecast for 50% chance of rain doesn't meant the same thing in Florida that it means where I live.

We just role with the weather and temps and are ready for anything. It's more fun that way.

Don't trust the weather forecast, just pack a little of everything. In December 2008 we went that week. I checked at least 5 different weather sources the day before we left. Everything said it would be around 70-72 for highs the entire week. We took jeans, thin long sleeved shirts and a jacket for evenings. The weather was right our arrival day, after that they had a heat wave and it was between 80-85 the rest of the week...completely shorts weather day and night. We all bought short sleeved T-shirts and wore them the rest of the week day and night and wished we had shorts. DD's cute Christmas clothes for MVMCP and and pictures (it was her 1st trip) all stayed in the suitcase. People that had been there the week before said it had been so cold that people were in heavy coats and gloves. Last year we went in December again and I was prepared. I packed for everything and it was a good thing I did. We started off the week in shorts day and night and ended the week in sweaters, jeans and jackets day and night. You just never know what you are going to get, and it can change fast!

As someone else suggested, bring a little bit of everything. Things like gloves and hats (and warm socks!) don't take up much room in your luggage, but can be expensive to buy if you need them for your whole group.

Here's my experience: I went October 8-18 last year. We had record-high heat for the first part of the trip, and record-cold temps for the last few days we were there. What I wouldn't have given for a warm jacket, knee socks, and gloves! I had packed "correctly" for the first week (shorts, sleeveless tops, sandals) but had no idea the temps would drop so drastically later in the trip. It was so breezy and cold, even though I was wearing long pants, the cold wind made my legs freeze (I only had short "ankle" socks). I was at Epcot, and finally found a pair of warm socks at the Japan Pavilion after searching for more than an hour. And remember, this was mid-October, not December!

So I say: bring a little bit of everything; be prepared to layer; bring gloves, hats, and warm socks for everyone; and have fun!

I'm curious about this "hat, scarf, coat, gloves" thing. We're also planning on being at WDW around that time :cool1: and I'm prepared to pack whatever we need but does anyone have actual temps to share?

I'm asking because living in the NE as we do I don't really pull out the scarves and coats for anything over 45-50 degrees. I know people who are accustomed to warmer climates sometimes pull on some gloves a little sooner than I would, so the question is: Is it really that cold? During the day?

We were there Christmas week last year, we had temps of low 30's in the morning and evenings but high 60's during the day. Drastic changes so we layered and were fine. We did wear fur lined hoodies and gloves and hats most days but also swam during the warmest part of the day. We are going again this year and will pack the same way. That being said last May I froze every evening after the sun went down, by the 3rd night I caved and bought a jacket. My dh laughed because I brought a blanket down to the pool each evening while I watched our girls swim.

We will be there the first week of December also.. if it is anything like the first week of January which we did for three years in a row.. it is sooooooo unpredictable!

Im hoping for warmth. I wouldnt mind a sweatshirt. Its better than snow and winter boots/shoes

I agree with the majority here...We go every Dec. and there have been times when we had t-shirts and shorts and other years we've needed coats and pants...Just keep an eye on the weather forcast and hope they are accurate...Personally, it is the BEST time of year to go...The lights are fantastic...

Looking at photos of our past visits, all in December, I'm reminded of the 2001 visit when I was very glad to have brought my moderately heavy coat. It was beautifully clear but cold (high in low 50's).

We usually go the 2nd or 3rd week of janury--- Capris and T shirts are usually enough. But we have had a few days that were VERY cold nad windy. Just pack extra long sleeve shirts to layer under you thin jacket. Also a hat, scarff and gloves wont take up too much room JUST IN CASE you need it--- you probably wont...

When we go the temps are usually 55 -75...the cold days were 45...MOST OF THE DAYS WERE ABOUT 75 THOUGH

We went in December 2 years ago and I'd say you need LAYERS. In the beginning of our trip we had on fleece jackets and jeans at night, light-weight long sleeves during the day with jeans. By the end of the week, we were in shorts during the day. It seemed to cool off a lot at night. We even wore gloves to the MVMCP as it was in the 40s. My daughter had a fleece blanket on her in the stroller. We're going again in December and I'm planning for every kind of weather. Still better than snow in Buffalo!
