My boyfriend doesn't have a sport coat. Do you think a shirt and tie will be ok?

My DH wore just a shirt/tie, no jacket. We just didn't want to pack it - and drag it with us for a week.

He HATES wearing jackets. There is no doubt in my mind after about 2 or 3 minutes - he would have hung it on the back of the chair.

I would want a jacket....is there someone he can borrow one from? What does he do for weddings and funerals? This is always a touchy topic for some cruisers...

He is fashion challenged. He has a suit that is about 3 inches two short in the arms and about 4 in the legs. I wont let him wear it anymore. We actually discussed donating it to goodwill the other night. I was going to take him down and get him fitted for a new suit and a coat, but it wouldn't be ready before we left for our trip.

I asked him what he'd been doing about court appearances and funerals, he said he always wears his uniform. Hes challenged, but I'll get him fixed up!

Dfiore1....I think it's a California thing! Nobody here hardly ever wears suits and ties to anything anymore. Funeral, weddings, dinners, court........My DH and DS will being wearing dress shirts and ties. They have no jackets or suit coats and they would be sweating to death in them if they wore them. They would also be on the back of the chairs in 2 mins. In fact, I have to buy my son a tie and dress shirt before we cruise because he doesn't even own any. And of course I'll have to get me a nice dress because I am a jeans and t-shirt girl and don't even own a pair of heels! Wait...I take that back... I bought a pair to save til we cruise in June.:hyper:

Just my two cents, of course, but a grown man needs a suit (or at least a sport coat).

I don't care where you live!!

According to Deb Wills' All Ears weekly newsletter dated 11/23, "Gentlemen are now only required to wear a dress shirt when dining at Palo. (A jacket or tie is still suggested, but not required.) Men wearing T-shirts, golf shirts, etc., will not be allowed in the restaurant. The Champagne Brunch and High Tea, both offered in the same location, will remain "resort casual."

Have to say "ditto" to Antmaril--grown man ought to have a suit. And I also saw the All Ears Weekly Newsletter item--so even groovy California surfer dudes can enjoy Palo if they have a dress shirt. I think shoes are still required...

Yes...I agree with Antmaril also. That's why I am getting my DH and DS both jackets soon. We have never been able to afford them before, and really never needed them and as we have gotten older there are more places and things that we would like to do that would require them. (like formal & semi-formal nights on the cruise) But if Palo doesn't require a jacket, they will leave them off. Believe me.....I was shocked when they both told me that they wanted to do the formal and semi formal nights. I thought for sure they would want to skip them! Your tastes change as you get older I guess! As for the California thing....it's just the way it is out here. I don't agree with it. I mean the young girls out here wear skimpy tank tops and bare midriffs and low cut jeans to church! Thanks for all your thoughts.

I agree with you antmaril. He's been living the California Bachelor life and belive me its less OC out here than you think. He hasn't needed to wear anything nice and he hasn't had anyone to advise him on what is suitable (no pun inteaded). We will get him a nice suit and coat when we get back, but theres just no time before we go. No one elses clothes will fit him, so borrowing is out of the question.

Its good to know He won't feel too out of place in just a shirt and tie! Thanks so much for all of your help.

My husband isn't bringing a suit jacket either for a bunch of reason (mostly cause he doesn't like them). I think that you can still look nice with a shirit and tie....Just my opinion!

A dress shirt and tie wil be acceptable only if he is also wearing pants.

hehe

PS I worried about suits/tuxes/sport jackets way too much before my last cruise. Don't waste the time and energy.

Enjoy!
