What to Toss?

You should be able to provide your own toss petals - just know that Disney won't touch them. You'll have to have someone from your group set them out/pass them around - not that this would be a huge deal or anything.

We did petals in bags for $3.50 and, let me tell you, it was worth it for the pictures we got - heck, one of them even made it into a magazine! :goodvibes

Id avoid having anything around that could poop on the dress or guests! I would be nervous with birds!

I was a guest at a wedding that did a butterfly release, and it was AWFUL! They were handed out in little packets, and a bridesmaid decided that it was to be a "surprise" (not to self, live creatures make bad surprises) It was UGLY!

They were handed out in little packets that came with the programs, and we were told, its a surprise, dont open until the end of the ceremony! It was a long ceremony! People did with the little packets the same thing they did with the programs, stuff them in your pockets, twirl them and stuff em in a purse, toss em on the seat next to you OOPS someone sits on them. Give em to the kids to hold.

Anyway, long story short, imagine a small child sitting next to you twirling the programs, then learning there is a butterfly inside, and that he squished it. Bloodcurdling scream ensues, people start digging out the surprise packets, butterfly casualties were high. It was not pretty! When the packets opened, little bugs FELL out onto the ground, some twitched, a few survived. TO THIS DAY I wonder, why did the people that supplied the butterflies not give clear instructions???? Why were they handed out at the beginning? It was a failure on so many levels....

SOOOOOO stick with the petals! lol

:scared1: wow...now THATS a horror story!

Wow! I'm mortified now lol!

I was definitely considering the bubbles as an alternative....but do you think I could bring my own petals? I would have to find someone to set them up tho.....

But if you did use bubbles, what brand did you buy?

Ahhhh, that is terrible! Imagine being a bridesmaid planning the surprise and thinking to yourself "Oh how sweet it will be, the happy couple will walk in a field of butterflies" only to see dead bugs on the ground around you... that story wins the award for "Worst wedding Exit"! Yikes:eek:

We also did the petals in the basket. I couldn't have been happier with how the pictures came out. I know it seems like alot of money, but it the scheme of things it's really not bad.

We wanted to do the petal toss because it is so pretty but we are on a pretty tight budget so we scrapped it. Instead we are going to get some petals and use them in our "before" shots.....*we are seeing each other before* We are going to have the wedding party throw them in the air for some pictures. Who knows if it will work work but I hope so!

We did the petals in a bag for each of our guests ($3.50 each). If you are trying to save some money I would suggest the petals in a basket and letting everyone take a handful.

I think that the dove releases are beautiful and was really hoping to do one. Heck, I even asked if I could do it on the boat or in the bahamas when I switched to the cruise! :lmao:
Anyway, Disney used to have their own doves just for their weddings, but here recently animal activists spoke up - and now no live animals are allowed.

I used bubbles at my wedding 10 years ago, and had no problem with them. They were cheap and came from Wal-Mart.

As far as petals - if you decide to cut them, ask your photographer to do some petal shots, these always turn out great when we do them!

I dont know what the theme of your wedding is but i saw a picture of a beach wedding throw smaller beach balls. It was a really cute picture the photogragher made everything but the beach balls black and white it looked really cool.

I realize I posted that a petal toss was out of the budget lol but this post got me thinking and and I dug around....does anyone have any estimates on how many petals you need for a toss? If you are doing the hanfuls? I looked at growersbox.com and they have a 5,000 rose petals package for 185, which *and I could be completely of* if I have 100 people and they each take a handful of 10-15 I could have enough for a toss and a small lined aisle way...So i made a deal with the DF. If we have 185 given to us on the honeymoon card 2 weeks before the wedding I can get them. Its an outdoor ceremony and he is worried it will be a waste of money if its windy....

Ann - That's a cute idea, but you have to use things that are natural when at an outdoor location because of the wildlife.

I am going to bring my own petals!!! They said I could bring my own so I am!!! :woohoo:
