I need help here-- In our church we have a new program called 'Secret Saints' where a person/family is teamed up with a college student to send them things - cards or gifts- through out the year. The student only knows the packages are coming from someone in the church until May when we have our reveal luncheon.

Anyway, our family has a male college senior. I want to send him a package this week as like a survival kit for exams. The only thing on is bio as far as favorites is that he likes salty foods (I sent him a box of different kinds of snack size pretzels last month). I was going to send coffee and maybe some micro popcorn but what else would be good to include?

I am going to send him a Target GC and iTunes card about a week later for Christmas. I don't know what grocery stores are close to him to send a GC like that.

Any suggestions????

Ooooh I used to get these when I was in college! The BEST one I got was my junior year! I got low fat popcorn, apples, a bag of dried fruit, some awesome hot tea mix, a sleep eye mask, some of those thermacare stick on heating things for my tense shoulders and neck, a cd of soothing music, honey stix to mix in your tea, a bag of mixed nuts, and TWO hershey's minis!

I loved it because other than the two hershey's minis, everything in it was healthy. When I was a student, my friends and I had such a tendency to want to gorge on stuff that was sooo bad for us while studying. You'd be mindlessly snacking and all of the sudden realize you were on a major sugar rush and had just consumed 40 grams of fat without even knowing it. Whoever sent me that box that year kept me alert, soothed, and healthy. Best study box I ever got!

Presuming you're not LDS, the simple answer is CAFFEINE!!! Lot's of it, in the most concentrated forms.

Blue Books are good if he takes classes that require essay exams (history, English, poli sci, etc.); that way he won't need to go to the trouble to go out and get them.

Perhaps a plain sweatshirt and a couple of prs. of socks, too, because he probably won't be taking the time to do laundry during exam week -- clean clothes are always in short supply at that time of year, especially for guys. (They just don't seem as comfortable studying on top of a washer, for some reason.)

To find out about grocery stores near him look up the location of the college he was attending and you should find which stores are near him. Other suggestion for a care package would be a stress ball or packets of Gatorade mix.

chocolate covered espresso beans, tea, zicam (exhaustion can make you prone to colds), nuts, popcorn, and maybe something silly like mad libs or something to rest his brain.

Ohhh that is so awesome. :goodvibes Our church does this BUT just to the first semester Freshmen. I have been on the committee for years.

We actually have the high school Juniors and Seniors in our CCD program run a huge fundraiser (baked goods) between all the Masses for a few weeks in October to raise the money to make the "Christmas Care Packages" for our Freshmen. When the Freshmen come home for Christmas they ALL exclaim how exciting it was to get the care package. :santa:

Ok, let's see, we STUFF the packages with candy and baked goods. We enclose a Christmas card from the church. I would throw in a package of pens, highligher, sticky notes. Maybe a sporting magazine, the Itunes and Target cc are great even CVS/Walgreens!! Hot cocoa and tea bags. Candy canes. Peanuts.

That's what my DH said! :lmao: I don't think it would travel well through the mail but if he has a Super Target he can use the GC for beer!

note cards, highlighters, pens and pencils, tea, coffee, hot chocolate with marshmallows, cup of soup mix, encouragement notes (the kids in the preschool use to draw them "inspirational" pictures and our campus kids really liked getting something personal), hard candy, and chocolate of any kind!

No one in my major uses Blue books anymore. They are not even sold at my college I remember one class where the prof handed out a blue book (dusty from storage) and the young ones had no idea what they were.

The looks on their faces were priceless.

Seriously, I'd love money for Christmas or grocery shopping.

I'm currently a female senior college student and heres what I would like:

more time. Please put in a word with the man upstairs to arrange this! I am so strapped for time its not even funny.

Now for things you can actually do:
The problem with energy drinks is that you crash after awhile and then feel like total dog poop. Try finding some natural energy things. Trail mix, and stuff like that. Friends of mine suggested oranges. Maybe one of those chocolate covered orange things they have in the stores for christmas now? A little chocolate never hurt anyone!

I love the poster that said socks. Laundry is on my last list of things to do right now. Throw in some boxers too - my guy friends swear you can get 4 days out of 1 pair: normal wear, backwards, inside out one way, and inside out backwards. All I have to say about that is gross.

Plastic forks, knives, and spoons. Especially spoons. For some reason, we go through these the most. No one has time to clean, and these are the most sanitary and easy option.

Definitely pens, pencils, highlighters, & index cards. We lose them all by now!

And I LOVE the idea of an inspirational note or card. Truly, that is what I would love most right now. Just a little message saying : you can do it!

Also, maybe a small little travel pillow, or one of those ones filled with the bean bag material. Small power naps in the library are quite common around here, and that would be great to have!

Thank you for doing this. Its a great thing!

They are still used on many campuses, especially for the big survey courses. Laptop security programs like SecureExam tend to be pretty pricey, so lots of schools cannot afford to implement them campus-wide. And some profs just don't trust electronic exams, for whatever reason.

Millions of blue books are still sold every year in the US; they are not dead yet, by a long shot.

I haven't had a survey course in about 20 years and I only used them once then. I've been to three different schools so I guess it is YMMV.

I've had to use regular note book paper (ream style) but not actual blue books.
