I know the San Angel doesn't get very good reviews at all BUT I really want to go to there (the atmosphere looks too fun to pass up).

I would love y'all to convince me there are at least a couple of things on the menu that would make it worth the trip.

Any entree selections that are pretty good to good?

Also, anyone have the kids quesadilla - is it spicey at all?

Filete Motuleno - Grilled beef tenderloin with beans, Oaxaco melted cheese, Ranchero sauce, Pablano peppers, and fried plaintain $32

That is what I've had in the past and loved it. I'm getting it again next month.

I'm sure the children's isn't hot at all.

I was nervous because of the bad reviews but then I figured I eat Mighty Taco or my own tacos I make at home using a seasoning packet, bagged salad and salsa so I figured I really must not be that picky ;) and kept the reservation.

I looked at the menu and was confused also. I didn't know what alot of the items mentioned were. I think I'm going to get this : Plato Mexicano - Grilled beef taco, chicken enchilada, and cheese quesadilla with black refried beans, guacamole and Mexican rice.

The kids quesadilla is just a tortilla and cheese, not at all spicy.

Ahh...Super Mighty!!

Not sure why this place gets such poor reviews, but I was interested in trying also. Maybe stopping in for a Margarita (or two) would feed my ambiance craving;)

TinkerLiz,

I think you may be looking at an old menu (or perhaps the lunch menu?) I am also trying to decide what looks good to me and I'm having a tough time with all the different ingredients. I really hope more people who have dined recently are able to give their opinions. The new menu is on AllEars and was just recently posted. I'd love to know what guajillo sauce is like as it seems to be in a number of dishes.

If you don't know for sure what various dishes are made of, or what the names mean, you can always try googling the names of the dishes. Like you mentioned guajillo sauce...if you google "guajillo sauce" a lot of recipes come up & you find out that guajillos are a type of chili pepper.

I did that when I was trying to identify the ingredients & dishes available at the Morroccon restaurants...cuz I didn't have a clue:confused3 (turns out I liked the taste of them anyway! )

Thanks :) I'll have to check out the menu on allears. That's usually the menus that I look at. I wonder what the heck I was looking at :confused3

This sounds good, but I didn't see it on their menu last week... I ordered the
Corvina En Salsa Verde - Sesame crusted grilled filet of Corvina, placed on top of a Green Tomatillo sauce, wild mushrooms and a thin slice of Chorizo. $19

I thought it was really good. I wasn't thrilled with the dessert choices, though, none they offered were really for my taste. I did get one, though, just to try... I had the flan de vanilla or something like that. It was a cream like custard square with almonds on top. It was ok, but again, not my type of dessert.

I can't remember what DH got. My kids got the grilled chicken with angel hair pasta and one got the quesadilla. One warning on the quesadilla, though, DD didn't like it because it comes with chicken on it. You can ask for it without the chicken, though, which I didn't realize at the time. So keep that in mind. And my other kids didn't really like the grilled chicken with the pasta either. This was by far their least favorite restaurant. BUT, they are really picky eaters and got either chicken nuggets or pizza at most of the other restaurants. DH didn't complain about his food, and he's pretty picky, too, so whatever he got he liked well enough.

I love their Sopa Azteca (tortilla soup) and my fav. entree is actually on the vegetarian menu. It is a combination platter and it is really really tasty and cheaper than entrees on the normal menu.

Was there about a month ago and got Enchiladas Verdes de Camaron it was a little spicey but tasty (shrimp quesadilla). Tostados de Jaiba - Fried corn tortillas topped with shredded crab meat, mixed with chipolte mayo, red onions, cilantro, and lime juice $10 (This was very nice and fresh, not immitation crab either, yummy).
Hubby got a steak that was tough.

To add to this - the luch menu has several different options that aren't on the dinner menu and vice versa so..

Would you recommend lunch or dinner to get the best meal?

We liked the empanadas, the filet, and the Mexican rice. Nothing we had was spicy. The salsa with the tortillas was probably the spiciest thing we had. We do not like ranchero sauce.

I would recommend take out from a different restaurant! LOL

Seriously, I hope you have a good experience there. Mine was such a disappointment.

I agree about the combination platter on the vegetarian menu - you just have to know to ask for the vegetarian menu instead of the regular one. It's quite tasty :)

Pollo a las Rajas - Grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onions, chile poblano, chorizo (Mexican sausage), sour cream and melted cheese. $19.95

This dish is so good.... we asked for directions on how to make it, our waitress got it from the chef for us. princess:

We've made it at home twice for Parties and everyone loves it. (plates get licked clean) :cheer2: :cool1:

I love the Filete Motuleno! It is sooooo delicious! I never want to try anything new there, that's how much I enjoy it!
