What to expect getting my ears pierced?

Why is a nurse doing piercings? Even my pediatrician said she was not qualified to pierce ears. Please stop giving such bad advice based on your one experience as an 11 year old.
It wasn't advice. It was relating an experience... just like you relating your experience with your daughter's trouble with a piercing gun. Have a good one.

Edit: sorry didn't see you got them done already before posting

Get it done by an actual piercer.
Usually they are located within tattoo shops.
They will do it with a needle and you barely feel it.
Getting it done with a gun will hurt a lot more and has a higher risk of infection.
They will have options for the initial earrings and they usually won't put any old earrings in because they know what works well for healing.
It takes a good 10 weeks for them to truly heal and even then piercings can start to heal from the inside within hours.
I've had mine for 20 years and if I leave out earrings for more than 4 days I have to stab them through the middle.
You should be waiting that 10 weeks before you switch them out.

Wish I had asked them more clearly how to loosen them. One of them feels like it's on a little bit tight. All I remember hearing was grab from one side and pull from the other until it "clicks" but I can't tell, and they are the kind that turn but they don't seem to loosen or tighten when I turn them.

You may want to go back and have them look at it and loosen it a little.
They won't mind checking. They rather have you come back than do something that messes it up.
I got hoops that had a little ball that closed it and the ball fell out. I would have needed pliers to fix it so I just went back in and they did it in two seconds.

Yeah, I might do that tomorrow. I'll have my coworkers look first since they had theirs done recently, they might know more about it then I do.

It just feels weird because no matter which way I turn them, they don't loosen or tighten, so I don't know how I'm supposed to remove them when it's time to change them out.

You'll do as they said and take one side and the other and PULL. You'll need to pull hard.
My sister has a nose piercing that she just had to take out for surgery the other day and she saw a hack of wrapping dental floss around each side and pulling it apart since your fingers are too big to get it.
Worked great for her.
But when its this fresh my advice is not to have others touching it.
Stop by the place you got it done. They will appreciate you not messing with it.

Yeah, that'd be best then. If you're supposed to pull HARD to loosen them, then I'm hesitant to do it myself. I don't want to yank them out by accident.

You know, it only crossed my mind now, but I should have asked if an ear piercing will prevent me from giving blood for a while. My expresspass always asks me if I had a recent piercing or tattoo.

I should've thought of that before, considering I give blood every 4 weeks. I hope it doesn't affect my eligibility, that's something I am passionate about.

You'll want to contact the place you donate because guidelines vary.
But usually they do want you to wait potentially several months.

My coworkers told me to just grab my piercing from the front and pull the backing until it clicks. Did so, all good now, no pain, no bleeding.

One of my ears is a bit swollen now and fairly tender. This is normal I take it? A bit of swelling is part of the healing process?

My advice is to contact your piercer with questions about your healing process because they will know what is expected or not expected.
Piecers have varying aftercare instructions and products etc.
