I am booked for 2 nights at AKV (1 night rented points 1 night wih Disney) in a studio. I am new to this whole thing. Can anyone give me an idea what to expect with dvc? Will it have soap, shampoo etc? How many towels, wash rags Will we have (2 adults and an 2 year old). Is there any hidden cost I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

You will have all the same amenities you get in any Disney resort. The only difference is that DVC is a timeshare and as such, you don't get daily maid service. Since you are only staying one night, that isn't a concern anyway.

You might want to contact the member you rented points from to link your DVC reservation to the Disney reservation so you don't have to move studios. You don't say what view you reserved, or whether you are in Kidani or Jambo. Kidani has a wonderful water play area your little one might enjoy. You can use both pools. When you check in be sure to say you need a tub, so you don't get a HA studio with only a shower.

If you are in a standard view, take time to visit the animal viewing areas, and the fire pits at either resort. The CMs are wonderful, and check the schedule of activities for things you and your little one might enjoy.

You will have enough towels, hand towels, and face cloths for the two nights. You will get mousekeeping on the Disney stay, not the DVC night.

We are at Kidani with a savanna view. Thanks for your tip about the tub, I had no idea and that would have been an issue at bath time because my son is only 22 months! Will we have a washer/dryer or is that just the bigger units?

We are staying here with the plan on never leaving the resort. It's at the end of our trip so we thought this would be a great place to hang at the pool and my son would love the playground and water area and seeing the animals. Big jump from Pop where we will be in the beginning!

love AKV - hanging around the resort is a great plan. :)

the studios don't have the washer/dryer but your room key will get you in a nearby laundry room (free use of machines) if you need it. you might need to bring your own detergent (or pay a little more at the resort).

Only 1- and 2-BR villas have washer and dryer in the villa. But there is a laundry room you can use.

Absolutely a great place to just enjoy the resort for a couple days! We stayed here our first time March 2010. We originally planned on hitting the grocery store while the kids checked out the resort and then hitting AK. But time didn't permit hitting a park at all that first day, but the kids didn't care! They were perfectly content to just check out the resort! So many activities, great pool, animals to watch. Kids LOVED it. (I should mention that our oldest is 16 and had a friend with her also 16 and they watched our younger kids, then 11, 10 and 8, while we were at the grocery store.... we didn't just let young kids wander around the resort alone!) I even said that I would've been perfectly content just hanging out at the resort for a few days and not hitting the parks at all. Glass of wine on the balcony watching the animals in the evening was HEAVEN. Oh, the 16-year-olds' favorite thing at the resort was the trivia by the pool! Our 16-yo is a Disney trivia nut!! (I think she won too!)

There isn't anyway to link a DVC with a non-DVC reservation. Both reservation numbers would have to be noted on the opposite reservation. And there is still no guarantee that you would not have to move. You will have to check out and check in again at the minimum.

A studio has four bath towels, two hand towels and four face cloths.

Fingers crossed we wont have to move! Thanks for everyones responses this is new experience for us and I like to be prepared and informed!

If both reservations are for savanna and Kidani, very unlikely you'd need to move. All studios are attached to one-bedrooms (to make a 2 bedroom), so there should be no reason to move you (only one I can think of is if they put you in an accessible room because that was all that was available and then someone with a need was checking in on the day of your other res).

:) We are doing our trip the same, kinda....starting our vacation at Pop for one night then to AKV for 9 nights. Kidani, SV studio.....you will love it. Have a great time!!:cheer2:

How does Disney work the transfer between the resorst? Do they transport your luggage for you or are you on your own?

Thanks

From what I read Disney will transport it or would could take a cab but since I have a toddler and no car seat with us I will just have Disney take care of it. I will however transport my sons nebulizer and meds myself.

:) Yep I plan on getting Bell services to take our luggage down (if they are busy, of course we will do it) and then transfer it. MIL and I will then maybe get an early lunch at AK, then ride the bus over for check in. I will also be getting my first OL this trip and am looking foward to getting that as well. :cloud9:
