So back in January/February, I got my PIN code, consulted all the oracles including my work and DH's work and made reservations for the last week of September for the Poly at Disney.

Well, work is heating up (I should be working right now, actually). And my BFF has decided she wants to come visit in September. She will NOT come to Disney, even if I pay for everything (which I am perfectly willing to do). I can't take any days off in September at this point other than Disney. Now, add to that - I have a 3rd party vendor who should be coming in August. Co-worker has decided to take on the onus of scheduling these vendors and informs me that they say they will have to come in September, but we don't know WHEN in September.

I just went online and realized I cannot, at least online, get the 40% discount for the Poly if I switch dates. This isn't horrible, I guess, but I also can't get the Grand Floridian. I can get BC, YC and WL for alternate dates. Waah me, I know, but this will be our last Disney visit for a few years. Seriously thinking if I have to switch dates I'll just do a DVC from someone here on the boards - we'll at least have a full kitchen that way, and be able to make our own slightly eccentric breakfasts instead of being forced to do whatever our resort has for breakfast, and have plenty of room for snacks and sprawling out. (And we can do laundry!)

Okay, so that little bit of "I wantwhatIwantwhenIwantit" over with. . .I'm still stuck with BFF's visit.

I'm thinking I might cancel Disney and do it later, like next winter. Touringplans.com says that the first week of March will be nice and quiet, and Epcot's Flower and Garden show will start that week. (No MNSSHP for me. . .)

Would you tell BFF, sorry, but you have to work and go to Disney? Or would you cancel Disney for BFF's visit and go in the spring? Or would you tell BFF that she's getting a paid 7 day vacation, including park tickets and food out of the deal, suck it up?

This is all with the knowledge that the days may well change (apparently the 3rd party vendor went on vacation before he firmed up the dates. No, we likely won't use these folks again.)

I would tell BFF that I love her and want to spend time with her and have this unchangeable vacation planned so she's coming with me and I won't take no for an answer!

Why won't she come to Disney?

Let's see, you have approved vacation time for yourself & DH, plans made, reservations booked & the question is should you cancel? For a BFF whom is making vacation plans that work for her; she's not really worrying about if they work for you now is she? For a vendor that might come that week but you can't find out because he's on vacation?!

Nope, I wouldn't cancel a vacation with my DH for those reasons. Life is short. We work hard all year long. Our time together is too precious to us.

Here's what I'd be saying: "Sorry, BFF, DH & I are on vacation in Sept, but we can have you visit us in.... let me know if you can come then".

To co-worker who is scheduling the vendor, send an e-mail reminding her that you will be on vacation & out of town from Sept. __ to __. So you will not be available to meet with the vendor those days. Spell out what days she could schedule the vendor for.

That's what I'd do, YMMV!

I'm with focus...tell the BFF sorry we're going on vacation and I have to work in Sept and tell the vendor when you'll be out of the office.

If all the stars are aligned for you to go on vacation, then go.
