What to do with unrentable and non-transferable points

I have a small amount of points that were banked from 2009 that I cannot use before the end of my use year, 11/30/10. They were part of a small contract I purchased and the amount is too small to go through the hassle of renting and because they were banked, I can't transfer them.

I hate to just let them go to waste and was wondering how else I could possibly use them. Has anyone ever used points via RCI for New York City? I thought perhaps I could use them for an overnight visit -- I live only an hour away. Does anyone have any clue how many points one night might be in NYC between now and 11/30?

TIA! :)

The minimum stay for an RCI exchange would be a week in a studio at 106 points. You might want to check the Concierge Collection for a single night's stay, but even there the cost will be in the 35 point range. Since you are already in the last 4 months of your Use Year, only DVC stays or World Passport stays are an option - none of the non-DVC stays can be reserved for stay during the last 4 months of a Use Year.

You could bank those points (plus enough current points to reach the number of points requried for an RCI exchange) into the World Passport Collection and thus extend their use by 2 years.

Here is the World Passport Collection point chart for weekly stays:

Studio. 106 Low/123 Mid/134 High
1 BR.... 124 Low/144 Mid/160 High
2 BR.....207 Low/252 Mid/270 High
3 BR.....276 Low/317 Mid/349 High

How small are we talking? Is it even enough to book one night at OKW? If so, you might be able to find a friend or family member who would love a gift night (think of aunts, uncles, mom, dad?) Pay it forward and it'll come back in kind. ;)

Actually regarding RCI you can use as few points as you want IE you can do nightly bookings as well as booking a whole week.

We just used 55 points to book 4 nights in Nashville. We have another 58 points that were banked and will expire Jan 2011 so MS told us to make a ressie with RCI then cancel it. RCI in return puts the points into a holding acct for a future RCI reservation and I get to extend the expiration date of the point till the end of 2012. Oh course we can only use the points to book a room with RCI resort and we will have to pay the exchange fee of $95 twice but it bets loosing these points all together.

Here is a link that might help

Thank you for the informatoin.

Do you know where I can find what hotels/resorts are available to use via RCI? I can't find anything specific on the DVC member site.

Thanks again!

After logging into the member site, go to Member Getaways/World Passport Collection/Nightly Exchanges/View RCI Destinations .

Here is the link to the View RCI Destinations information.

It looks to me like the link on the Members Website just takes you to RCI's listing of all 6,500+ RCI-affiliated resorts.

If so, I think that is a mistake on the DVC site, because DVC only has access to a tiny percentage of those resorts.

I have 30 points which expire 11/30/10. I offered them to two different family members (both who were planning trips) but neither one was interested in one night at a deluxe and then having to move to another.

That's a good plan -- I see that the Hilton in NYC is on the RCI list. It's RED category, so one weekend night in a studio is 27 points, so perhaps I will get lucky and get a Saturday night. I may even add in another 5 points and book a 1BR. I'm going to try this route -- thanks for the idea -- and see if I can get one night in October or November.

We used ours and spent a night at the Lowe's Regency on Park Ave. It was wonderful. We had gone to the NYC Opera to see Candide and it was nice going back to a hotel instead of driving back home. Very nice place - pet friendly though we didn't see any pets.
