What to do with extra points?

Alas, we have xxxxx points over to use before our use year ends and I can find nothing to do with them. We will not be going to Florida at all, I have checked RCI for a nightly stay or two and the only things I can find would be someplace like Ocean City, MD in February (COLD!), but when you add the resort fees, transfer fees, housekeeping fees, etc. it really just does not make sense monitarily when you add in travel expenses, too. Don't know anybody traveling to Florida either that we could rent them to. Bummer. Any suggestions?

We were in the same position as you and rented our points through David's. Now we have extra money for the non Disney vacations this year:).
I think there is a minimum points you need to have for renting--do you have some from this year available also?
I listed my points Sunday night and had a rental request the next morning.
I have read on here they have more rental requests than points right now so your points could go fast.

Can you not bank them into next year or are they points that have already been banked?

If they've not been banked and you still have your transfer option open I'm sure there will be more than one person willing to take them off your hands over on the rental board. With a transfer you take the money, move the points and are done with it. Renting involves a bit more work and worry.

Alas, I can't post them on the rental board as I don't have enough posts on the Disboards in the last 6 months, or some such reason. They were banked from last year, so they must be used by August 31st.

Success!

I finally go them rented out through David's today after about 3 weeks of missing potential rental situations with them. I had to borrow a few points, but still, I am glad I was able to put them to good use.

Unfortunately I am not in front of my computer all day and missed many rental opportunities, but today I just happend to pen my email 8 minutes after David's sent a request and I was the first one to respond!

They seem like a great company to deal with. :thumbsup2

I have the same issue, but I only have 14 points left. I have never rented or been a renter before. It was my understanding you need more points available to rent. I don't want to rent any more of my points I out - I want to use them. So, I supposed I will just let them expire...

Good for you!

If those points are not banked, you might be able to transfer them to another member.

They had been banked but are now in 2012 use year and will expire October 2013. We are going in November 2013 - that is why we can't use them.

I don't know how many points you have left over, but I had less than 30 points and was able to rent them through David's.

You could rent them. Before we bought resale, I rented points for one night two different times....

Before you let them expire, go out to the online booking system and see what's available before they expire. I suspect you will find a taker among your co-workers, family, neighbors who'd enjoy the gift of a night's stay.

Why let them expire? That's enough for a studio at OKW during the week. Even if you sold them for the rock bottom price of $8 per point, that is money in your pocket. Don't just let them expire, especially when it is enough to get a villa.

Where is the rental or transfer board? I never looked at it before and can't seem to find it on here.

You have to be logged in to see it. It is just below the DVC Trip Reports Board on the main page.

I found it now, thanks. I will have to think about it. I might do a transfer, don't really want to rent.

There are ppl that would be interested in a transfer...maybe even me.

I looked at the rent/transfer board. Is it true you can not transfer points if they have been previously banked? If so, then I would not be able to do this. My points had been banked and are now in this current use year.
