This is our first visit to wdw at this time of year (12/27 thru 1/2). When we go in the summer we're familiar with most of the things available to do and can plan in advance, making the necessary reservations.

We have no idea what's available for New Year's Eve. I assume the parks are open and have midnight celebrations as well as Pleasure Island.

Are there things to do at the different resorts or restaurants? Are there any celebrations for which you must have ressies in advance?

Thanks for any info.

We are in the same boat. However i have DS 10, DS4, DD 4. Pleasure Island activities for NYE are restricted to 21 and over. We did sign up for the candleight processional. Here is a link

i am sure others have more info that I would be glad to hear about

i have been at disney twice for new years and they were both the best new years i have ever had. once at MGM and once at MK.

MK was more crowded, but there is also more to do there, it made the long day more bearable.

MGM usually has a concert, that's why we went there one year.

MK has better fireworks at midnight, the best i'd ever seen!!!

My suggestion would be for MK.

Get there early....esp. if you are staying off site. We got to both parks by 9am and stayed till 1am.

Make a lunch and a dinner ps, it will help to break up the day.
get fastpasses, lots of fastpasses.
bring warm clothes, it can get really cold at night in december.
bring a travel game or cards with you. it will give you something to do while waiting on line, and in the evening. we experienced about two hours of "dead time" later on at night where we didn't feel like standing on any more lines, and we ended up playing uno in cosmic ray's. get to your fireworks location by 11pm at the latest to get a decent spot.
it is busy, but not unbearably so, if i could i would be there every new years. getting out of the parks really isnt so bad. we were in our car about 30mins after the park closed.
have fun!!!
