We are thinking about a road trip there this summer. Any ideas on what to do for 4-5 days?

Thanks!

Oh, what NOT to do?!?

I don't know the ages/interests of those in your party, but here are a few things to think about/check out:

Magic House
Science Center
Zoo (a must-do, IMHO)
Gateway Arch (not really a whole day thing though)
St. Louis Cardinals baseball game (another must do, again IMHO)
Grant's Farm
Six Flags
Eckert's Orchard - the one in Belleville, IL has a lot of stuff to do, we always have fun there

I like to send people to the following places for food:
Ted Drewes (well, frozen custard is food and I HAVE had it for dinner, but it's better as a treat)
Crown Candy Kitchen - yes, it's in a somewhat sketchy area, but it's all good during the day
Hodak's - I have a weakness for fried chicken

I agree with the PP on what to do but wanted to add a few other dining options.

If you like Italian food check out The Hill area of St. Louis. There are LOTS of Italian Restaurants in the area with exceptional food. As a St. Louis native who now lives in Dallas, I cannot tell you how much we miss the Italian food we used to get in St. Louis.

You should also check out St. Louis style pizza. My husband's favorite is Imo's and can be found all over St. Louis. Have a great time, St. Louis is a great city.

Oh yeah, the Hill - how could I have forgotten that!?!

I also forgot to mention the Botanical Garden - gorgeous and totally worth it if you like that kind of thing. :)

Also my kids' favorite place in St. Louis is the City Museum. www.citymuseum.org
It is downtown in an old shoe factory. Everything is made from old recycled things, tunnels to crawl through, lots to see and do. My kids think it is awesome! This would only be for the older kids though. There are some tunnels that are pretty dark and small that not all adults can fit in.

:thumbsup2 Kids definitely LOVE this place. It is very unique.

When are you coming? STAGES St. Louis does a "kids" show every year in August. This year, we are doing Disney's The Aristocats. Or, if you want a good evening of theatre, we have shows for the whole family as well.

Don't forget the University City Loop -- lots of good food, there...esp. at Blueberry Hill!

And the best part about nearly every attraction mentioned is that it is at (or very close to) a MetroLink stop!

Speaking for my DH and DS- St.Louis Cardinal Game!:cool1:

They had a blast at the games in the new stadium.

I am not a huge fan of the City Museum. Many kids get hurt there. My niece, who was 16 at the time, fell on an uneven place and had to have a pin put into her ankle. I know of several others that have been hurt and they report stuff on the news every once in awhile. Just a public service announcement.

Oh, I know what you mean. I had read so many reviews of people that were getting hurt I was almost afraid to take my kids there last year but I'm so glad I did. It was so much fun. I gave them very sturn lectures about how it could be a dangerous place and to PLEASE be careful. My heart stopped a few times when my 4 year old was so high up trying to keep up with his oldest brother. Luckily we had fun and escaped without even a scrape. I would return again but it is not a place for anyone under kindergarten age, really.

We loved that and the magic house, Grant's farm, the arch, and the science center. Lots of fun things to do that are free.

Don't forget:

The parks - everyone talks about Forest Park (which is wonderful) but I'll put my two cents in for Tower Grove Park. There's an old band stand (where they still have summer concerts on Mondays and wonderful farmer's market on the weekends. For me, it is much enjoyable (since I don't get lost) than Forest Park.

But if you do head to Forest Park - hit the Boat House, they are pet friendly if that matters. great view, good food and atmosphere.

Also food wise: Gooey Butter Cake - a must - my favorite can be had off another park,Lafayette Square at Park Avenue Coffee. while you are there, drive (or walk) around the square a bit, it is one of the best examples of a restored neighborhood in St. Louis.

Further South hit Serendipity (in Webster Grove)for some of the best ice cream I have ever had. The Gold Coast Chocolate is to die for is you are a chocolate fan. If not, they have something you will like. I promise.

If you don't like really, really thin pizza (St. Louis style) then two really great options exist. 1) Pi - chicago style but all our own - multiple locations. and 2) Deweys - a chain, but not a big one and some of the best I have ever had.

STL City dweller - and proud of it.

Check out YuCanDu Art studio. It's a hands on craft studio where you can create all sorts of amazing stuff and they'll clean it up!!!:cool1:

The Old Spaghetti Factory down by the riverfront (close to the Arch) is a MUST eat place! We love it!

Subscribing! We live in Kansas City and have good friends that live in Nashville. We keep saying that we are going to meet in the middle and spend a weekend in St. Louis! This thread is giving me some motivation!
