What is there to do right at the dock in Nassau? I have two girls (8 and 4). We don't want to do any of the excursions but I would like them to see the island a little. Are there any beaches or shops in walking distance?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Gregg

There are shops close to the dock, but be prepared for the "hard Sell". With 2 little girls, you will be swarmed with people who want to braid their hair.

My choice would be to stay on the ship & enjoy the virtual privacy of the pools while everyone else in on land. If you really want to see some of Nassau, take a quick walking tour of the shopping area...then back to the pools!

There are plenty of shops close to the port...easy walking distance. We didn't have any hard sells going on. We just said no thank you to anyone who offered things and kept on going. Not really an issue at all.

The straw market would be fun. The Senor Frogs there, has a giant frog..water/ships in the background..great photo opp for you and the girls. You can mail postcards back to yourselves from the pharmacy, just ask for directions when you get there. They sell the postcards and the stamps, and the mail box is on the same block.

Is the straw market and Senor Frogs within walking distance? How about with a 5 year old, 3 year old and infant( in stroller)?

My friend just got back from the Wonder Cruise and warned me of the Hard sell people. They literally grabbed her son away from her to take a picture. They did not leave her alone and followed her everywhere. This does not sit well with me therefore when we arrive at Nassau on Monday we will be staying on the ship.

 Nassau day for us will be busy. We will take a horse and buggy ride to Ardastra Gardens to see the flamingos, we will also poke around Fort Charlotte while over there. Then we will walk through the Straw Market towards Fort Fincastle and the water tower. We may go see the Queens Staircase.
We have 2 DS, they will be 10 and 13.
Oh, I nearly forgot the pirate museum pirate: , we all are looking forward to that.
::yes:: Hope this helps someone. There is more to do than go to Paradise Island. :wave2:
