What to do first day/mid day in Aug?

Hi all. We always go off season (read cool, not crowded) but this year we are heading down August 18. We should be all checked in to the hotel by 11:00 am, and I KNOW my kids will want to head to a park. I am assuming we won't be able to get into our room until 3:00 so going to a park is fine. But which one?

We are arriving on a Wednesday morning. I was thinking MGM might not be as crowded mid-day, and most of the things we do there are sit down and indoors which would help with the heat. The other option is epcot. If we headed to world showcase, it would just be opening and shouldn't be mobbed. AK would be too hot and MK would be too crowded.

We've been to disney before and don't do commando vacations anymore. We normally wouldn't be anywhere near a park in the middle of the afternoon--especially in august!

What would you do?

Are you flying or driving? How early do you plan on getting up that morning? We usually plan a low key arrival day. We go to the hotel, check-in, unpack, shop for water, etc and then have a nice dinner. If we have time, the kids might take a swim in the pool. Hopefully, that night, we all will go to bed early and wake up early the next day, ready to visit the parks.

We are flying. We have to leave the house around 4am that day. I'd love to just check in and hang around the hotel, but I'm sure I won't be able to get into the room until later in the afternoon.

I'm planning on heading back to the hotel in the early evening to get settled and get the kids to bed early. We're doing EE at MK the next morning.

I like the idea of heading to EPCOT or MGM - make a PS reservation for lunch. How about on your way to lunch pick up a fastpass for a headliner if the return time would be shortly after lunch - that would let you ride something exciting without the long wait. Otherwise do a less crowded attraction or just shop.

Of course your room might be ready so you need an alternate plan if that's the case - you might rather rest/swim and have dinner at a park.

Have fun!

'cause wednesday is early entry day at epcot and will be more crowded... whereas tues is mgm's early day, so it should be less crowded the day after... maybe hit sci fi for a milkshake as you take it slow that day...
