Hi, We haven't been to disney in years, and want my 8 y/o to have the time of his life. What is there that would be especially fun at AKL for him. I read something about a fire pit. Can anyone give me some help!
Thanks!
Jay :wave2:

Yes, there is a fire pit with storytellers. Other things to do: the AKL offers a hotel tour where you look for hidden mickeys. There is a bridge that goes out into the savannah, and cast members are out there to talk about the animals you see. At night, they will have night vision goggles your son can use to see the animals in the dark. Simbas clubhouse gets good reviews if you want some time to yourself, I believe it is $10/hour. There is lots more going on at the AKL. You can get a schedule of what activities are being offered that day at the front desk. Hope this helps!

The front desk has a list of kids activities that happen each day. One I can remember is nighttime viewing of the animals with nighttime vision goggles. That was very cool! My DD5 loved it!

Has anyone out there experienced the flamingo feeding at AKL? How does one feed a flamingo?

I was a little disappointed with the flamingo feeding. You don't actually feed them. They teach the kids the difference between flamigos and pelicans and then the staff feeds them.

There are several activities per day for the kids. On our last day my son got to paint a bird house. This did cost extra ($12). He also played bingo one day.

Your son will love AKL. My dd's loved just watching the animals most. One night they had a parade around the hotel about 8:00 or so, we missed it because we were at dinner. They also were advertising a whole day adventure for $80 where it was like a mini-camp for the kids. There are viewing areas with rocking chairs and large binoculars to just hang out. We were only there 5 nights, and to really enjoy the resort, you need more time, there are alot of things to do - my dd LOVED the slide & pool, couldn't get her to leave!!

My son and i loved AKL. We attended a 'tour' of africa done by a CM who had arrive from south africa less than 24hours before!. She was great and really knew about the animals and their habitat. I think this was on at about 6pm in a side area off the main lobby- there was only 7 guest in all. We also enjoyed walking around the hotel at night, using the night glasses, enjoying the fire and rocking chairs- mind for mozzy bites though( i got loads on our first night- the shop stocks sprays and cream!) enjoy your self, Ruth :sunny:
